thanks for the info sulablue. this sil has had many different diagnosis from many different drs. she is currently trying to get disability. First she was diagnosed with Lupus in 3 days. Then fibromialiga. 2 drs said she needs to see a psycitrist. She has problems with every med known to mankind. Allergic to this. Allergic to that. She went to the female dr do to no period in over a yr. BUT last xmas (03) she told us she was preggers. BUT then oops the at home test must of been wrong because she wasnt. So about a month ago she went to her first female visit with a new dr. I one appointment she found out she had PCOS, only ovulates every 3 months or so, had to decide by the following week if she wanted to have kids, she would have to try fertility drugs and it would be guranteed multiples. Now the psycitrist suggests going on metafomin and guranteed 60 lbs in 2 months. AND only has to watch her carbs. No exercise or other stuff needed just the pill. So now there plan is to catch up on bills and this summer try and get preggers. Everytime the story changes. BUT we keep going along with her. DONT want to correct miss thing. Sorry getting off my vent and rant now. LOL

Metformin is the drug commonly given to diabetics (and others with insulin

resistance) to

help regulate blood sugar. Metformin works by sensitizing the body's receptors

to the

insulin it produces.

I dunno about that losing 60lbs in 2 months thing. She may lose a *little*

weight, but

sometimes the opposite occurs. I'd definitely be surprised, nay WORRIED if she

lost 60 lbs

in 2 months.

OH! And I almost forgot:

Metformin is REKNOWN for gastro-intestinal distress. Anything from heartburn

and nasea,

to a bit of the montezuma. Most common is gas. Metformin is sometimes known as

" The

Fart Pill. "

Probably more than you wanted to know :)

I always had better luck when taking mine with food.

I am on a form of metformin (glucophage) to regulate my blood sugars. Take a look at www.webmd.com, do a search of the meds that is available and it will give you more information.

This is a psychiatrist/therapist telling her this? This guy needs to de a

bit more studying on the human female body before telling her this. And

hormones & reproductive problems should be left to the OB/GYN she's going to

, not a psychiatrist.

This is the " queen " , right?

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA

Well, he could be telling her this so when she *doesn't* she'll be so

depressed and down on herself she'll need therapy for many more years.

I know of more women who *gained* weight while on this drug than lost. They

may lost a few (under 10) pounds in the beginning as the blood sugar and

insulin levels get close to normal levels, but after that the weight

continues to climb, if the woman was big to begin with.

It will only make you lose weight if you diet while taking it. I was on it for some time to lower my insulin levels. If you take it you should never be more than 30 feet from a bathroom. I found that the intestinal side effects only lasted about 6 weeks. :-) Dawn Jase4567@... wrote:
