Guest guest
I am down 3 lbs since before Christmas. I know I had gained more over the holiday, but I didn't feel up to facing the scale. I tend to get depressed when it jumps up, and then I am tempted to binge. Anyway, I started behaving myself and it has gone down. I am back on the diabetic diet rigidly. I can't seem to do flexibility. I did this diet last year for a year without a single cheat. It is easy, filling, and the food is terrific. Then I let one cheat become thirty pounds worth. So, I am back to recording everything on fitday, weighing everything, drinking water from a mason jar (how southern is that?), and I gave up diet cokes. My diabetes had all but disappeared, but suddenly, I am back to severe kidney/UTI infections. My kidneys are damaged, so infections are quite dangerous. When my sugar gets high, it dumps into my UT and feeds any bacteria that decides to take up residence there. Also, I am prone to the infections. After 2 bladder surgeries, I still have to take a pill every time I have sex to prevent any infections caused by intercourse pushing urine up from my bladder. There is a new development in my dieting world, though. For the first time Shahn is doing it with me. He was always thin as the proverbial rail. When we married, I was quite svelte. I am 5'9 " and I weighed 128 lbs. He, however, is almost 6' and weighed only 125. He looked like a scarecrow in a tux. Well, he is a scarecrow no longer. He really only has about 35 lbs to lose, but he carries it all in his belly. His arms and legs are still relatively average size. So, since belly fat is considered to be quite dangerous in men (according to his doc) he is doing the diabetic diet with me. He is doing well, so far. He knows the ins and outs of it from living with me through my faithful year on plan. He also has high cholesterol and borderline bp so perhaps this will help him in several ways. I know it helps me, for him to be on plan with me. He is always helpful and encouraging, and he will eat whatever I serve him. But, having a buddy on the plan makes it easier for me to spend the time to make something really good to eat. I have been doing a lot of 'fun' cooking lately. I make pork loin with roasted vegetables in red wine sauce. I made spaghetti squash with chilli seared chicken and veg. I made stuffed acorn squash with smoked oysters. Oh, and fried fish with a ton of healthy trimmings for New Years. We only ate 4 and 6 oz of fish respectively, but we had tons of spinach salad, wilted baby spinach in lemon sauce, summer squash, etc with just a few black-eyed-peas (for luck in the new year.). I don't like the peas, but he loves them and they are tradition around here for New Years. Good luck, to everyone and a happy New Year! Cherilyn No virus found in this outgoing message.
