have you tried Burts Bees Baby Skin Cream. I don't know what's in it, but I

swear by it.

Are you using cloth or disposible? If you are using sposies, would you

consider cloth? I know some kids just can't take the chemicals in sposies.

Otherwise, I'm no help, my tried & true remedy is suppressive by nature (per

Sheri in a post a long long time ago LOL).

What's the rash like? Any chance it could be candida? Those nappy rashes

tend to have very angry red spots with white, blistery centres. The spots

are larger than ordinary nappy rash spots.

I can sympathise!!! I have so much admiration for EC mums!

My instinctive reaction is that something in the creams you are using could,

in theory, be making the rash worse. I have known so many b/f mums use a

product available in the UK called Kamillosan. It's a nipple cream based on

chamomilla, and aside from the fact that chamomile itself can be very

allergenic, it has a host of other ingredients such as beeswax

(non-organic), white paraffin, liquid petroleum...etc. etc. etc. And when

I've suggested leaving it off for a while to see if desperately sore nipples

improve, many come back with reports of almost instant relief. If the rash

is a form of contact dermatitis, then anything you use externally might make

it worse.

One other suggestion - have you tried breastmilk on it? If you only stopped

b/f three months ago, it shouldn't be hard to pump a reasonable quantity to

apply.

I would also suggest eliminating any chemical bath products if you use them,

change to a non-bio detergent for your babe's clothes, dump the fabric

conditioner - white vinegar works just as well - and try putting some oats

through your babe's bathwater. This will soften the skin and soothe any

itching. You might try just *one* drop of lavender oil, or possibly tea

tree or sweet thyme if you suspect candida, in the bathwater too.

Alternatively, I'd be inclined to try some mother tincture of calendula.

Could be milk. But if you have no family history of milk allergy, maybe

not. I'm always deeply suspicious of food allergies if there's no history -

seems almost too convenient. How about wheat? Anyone in the family with

wheat allergy? If you suspect any food intolerance, keep a food diary and

withdraw things one by one to see if it makes any difference. If she's

getting diarrhoea a lot it could be irritating the skin. Does she drink a

lot of juice? Or does she eat lots of fruit - large amounts of vit C can

cause *toddler diarrhoea* and that would also account for an irritated

bottom.

And see a homoeopath? ;o)

Just a few odds and ends to consider. I wouldn't waste a lot of money on

creams. That rash is trying to tell you something...

Hi ,

from what i've been reading, allergies are the most common cause of

severe diaper rash. other sensetivity symptoms include frequent

diarrhea or constipationm regular stuffiness , ear fluids, ear

infections, fussiness...is your little one still breastfeeding at

all? apparently, dairy (even the tiny amount of it in breastmilk from

the dairy the mother consumes) could still be the culprit. you'd have

to eliminate all sources of dairy for a couple of weeks to really

rule this one out. ... " Baby Matters " by Palmer has a lot of

info on it..other suspects are eggs, wheat and soy, citrus, peanut,

corn, strawberry,tomato,chicken

That said, I have been on an elimination diet myself (I have a 12

week old baby), and that hasn't helped his colic(we haven't had any

diaper rash or other symptoms at all, so maybe allergies are not the

case).

i hope you find the reason for that nasty diaper rash soon and your

little one feels better!

to fight the rashes--we can't have a diaper on her without thick

layers of ointment all the time. But for the past month or so we

have been battling it off and on continuously. I have tried " airing

out " her bottom as much as possible, but at her age with her high

activity level, the mess is just too much. I have tried every kind

Sometimes she has diarrhea and sometimes not. There is no rhyme or

reason to it. I am at my wits end and trying to do anything to avoid

taking her to a doctor at this point. Thank you so much for any

input!

Could it be some other allergy rather than milk? Is there some

other food that she favours or that she eats regularly? Could it be

thrush? I used to use a nappy liner sometimes with a cloth nappy

and found that often helped to keep the urine away from their skin

and therefore reduce the irritation to the rash until it healed. A

fantastic ointment that I use for absolutely everything is pawpaw

(papaya) ointment which is available in all health food stores in

Australia however I don't know if it exists anywhere else in the

world...Sorry I can't offer any other suggestions...good luck..Deb

Hi !

Someone else mentioned bathing the baby in Lavendar essential oil.

This has helped us greatly and will relax the baby. Be sure to use

a medicinal grade of essential oil - many of what's available in HFS

is just a perfume grade. I don't know where you live, but, I can

vouch for the essential oils at www.naturesgift.com . I recommend

Bulgarian Lavendar. They also have a thing where you can get up to

5 samples for $3 sent to you - so, if you don't want to spend too

much money and just try to see if this works you could go this

route. You only need one drop in the bath water. (If you want to

try other samples, I'd recommend Roman Chamomile (soothing!),

Eucalyptus ii (good for sniffles and gentle enough for babies),

Mandarian (calming) and a synergy called Inner child (it's got

lavendar, rose and chamomile).

Also - after bathing, dry the diaper area thouroghly and put a tiny

bit of calendula oil on the rash. This works very well as long as

the rash is not weeping). I believe you can also get calendula oil

from naturesgift.

Both of my girls were allergic to bananas. My older daughter's little bottom

looked like I had dipped her in scalding water. I cried my eyes out!!! Bought

every cream on the shelf all to no avail. We had been giving her solid foods for

a month or so before the rash appeared. It took me a long time to figure out it

was bananas of all things. I had never heard of anyone being allergic to

bananas. I still have not heard of it in anyone else. Not until my second

daughter was born. Low and behold, another banana allergy. Not as severe as the

first one but she broke out too. She had more intestinal discomfort with them

and less rash.

The oldest child is 7 now and the last time we tried them (about 2 years ago)

they still caused her to have a rash. Not nearly as severe but she got red

again. The funny thing about her was that she could not even have banana

flavoring in food. She could not have them raw, cooked, as a flavoring,

anything. I could always tell if someone slipped and gave her something with

banana lurking somewhere in the ingredients!

I hope you find the source of your little one's problem soon!!

I almost forgot to tell you this too...

The cream that worked best for me on both of my girls is Flanders Buttocks

Ointment. (www.flandersbuttocksointment.com) You ask for it at the pharmacy. It

comes in a small 2oz. jar or a large 4 oz. tube. I am not sure where you live

but here I have been able to find it at both CVS and Walgreen's. It is an OTC

thing but for some strange reason they do not typically stock in on the shelves.

If they do not have it in stock you can order it. It is more expensive than

Balmex or A & D but it is was SOOO worth it. It has a nice smell (not a chemical

or perfume odor) but a nice natural scent. I am extremely allergic to all things

with perfume so I could not have tolerated it if it were a heavy perfume odor.

Anyway, it is the only cream that made the rash better without drying out their

skin. Some of the creams I tried actually made their skin peel. OUCH!

Good Luck!
