Guest guest
I had it for my first and no colic, second I had nothing and he had colic. Go figure! It can be many different things. Sara Re: OT - Smoking by mothers linked to colic in babies I had pitocin with both my labors and neither baby had colic. ~`~Holly~`~ iel (5/96) & Jenavieve (5/02) " It is not how fast we learn that counts. Guest guest
Other things that cause colic are the mother having meds during labor, especially pitocin. Also the mother's diet has a lot to do with colic~ there are so many foods that an immature baby's digestive system can't really deal with. All forms of caffeine, Dairy, chocolate, nuts, citrus... and several others that I can't remember right off the top of my head. And then, some babies are just more stressed out than others. Those type of babies need more holding. Baby massage is helpful too. Jan G. SAHM of 8, doula, breastfeeding advocate

Guest guest
Here are a couple of posts from a Bowen Technic website message board. I found this very interesting and more then plausible. What do y'all think?? http://www.thebowentechnique.com/phpbb2/ viewtopic.php?t=13 I too have treated quite a few babies with colic and with very good results. None of the babies I treated got sick but would pass a very green " pooh " usually within the next few days or up to a week after treatment. Joy West, one of the ECBS instructors teaches that baby colic is amniotic fluid trapped at the top of the babies tummy which causes problems with milk digestion. Years ago babies were " sucked out " after birth which would alleviate this but of course this no longer happens. I have found this explanation to be really helpful in explaining to mothers why their baby is colicky. The green pooh or smelly vomit would explain the shifting of this fluid. It would also explain why it is necessary to perform only one treatment on the baby. Hope this is useful. I have another theory which adds to this and that is the function or rather lack of it in babies of the diaphragm. Babies breath is very shallow and fast and the diaphragm has not developed enough to be able to create the force needed to expel mucus or other such festering stuff left over from a bag of womb fluid. Likewise the use of the diaphragm in expellation at the other end is key here as well and it would be interesting to see how many colicky babies go on to develop other respiratory problems such as asthma, itself another effect of poor diaphragmatic function. It would explain why the asthma and baby colic moves work as well as they do.
Guest guest
No dairy here either. No smoking, pitocin, or dairy and my son STILL had colic! Guest guest
I was 31, not stressed out, never smoked and had aweful colic. I was however on asthma meds (hummm). I tried everything except homeopathy (wasn't informed of it yet)and nothing worked. I just chalked it up to her having an immature brain. I'm looking forward to our 2nd kid (not preggy yet) as I've got my ducks-in-a-row for this kid! Poor , she's my guine pig. ;-) Heidi > Ohhhh then the stressed out would be my child's answer. Guest guest
All I can say is my colicy has suffered from mucus problems since I quite breastfeeding (6 months) until up until we started Homeopathy. She's had a chronic runny nose, mucusy cough and thick fluid in her ears, including several ear infections. The crying started around 3 weeks old stopped around 8 months. Started homeopathy in March of this year. Poof. It's all gone. ;-) > Here are a couple of posts from a Bowen > Technic website message board. Guest guest
<<<Since we were already there they would ask about the colic and if it was still bad, then they would check and adjust him.>>> Well, OK, that makes sense. I guess with constantly crying he might have been out most of the time. I've never had the opportunity to check a colicy baby that much. I'd like to think that with the adjustments, even though it didn't help the crying he might have felt better in some ways and now that I think about it, maybe it prevented who knows what. Unlike allopathy, it certainly didn't hurt him in any way. Thanks for replying.
