Guest guest
Isn't vaxing mandatory in France, Debbie? If so, are you not going to be exposing yourself and the children to more than discrimination if you disclose that they are unvaxed? I realise that you must be able to get a religious/medical/philosophical exemption as in the US, but do you really want to potentially risk attracting attention from the medics in your area? Could you register yourself as having interests in *alternative* parenting - you could include alternative medicine (big in France), breastfeeding, co-sleeping, etc..? That would perhaps give you broader contact with English-speaking people but be a little more neutral until you were sure who you were talking to. Chances are that *alternative* parents would be more likely to be non-vaxers themselves, perhaps? I can understand your dilemma - I do hope it resolves for you. Guest guest
I understand your dilemma. Sometimes it is hard to do what one believes to be the right thing. I once had to resign from a job and wanted to do it by telephone so as not to face the boss. My brother said " Never be a coward " Well I'm sorry to say that on that occasion I was a coward, but that phrase later helped me to face up to difficult situations instead of avoiding them. I personally would take the bull by the horns. I have more respect for someone who believes in something and speaks out than for someone who changes opinion according to which way the wind blows. Vaccination is a personal decision. As a good parent we owe it to our children to do what we believe is best for them. You have investigated vaccinations and their effects others may not have. My first 3 children were fully vaccinated because I didn't know there was any controversy surrounding them. Only by using the Internet was my curiosity aroused, and I began to read. I wish I had known earlier. Living in a foreign country may be daunting if you don't speak the language and you have a smaller selection of friends( I lived in Colombia for 14 years)but others will also be in the same boat and will not reject you for doing what you think is right for your children. If they do then they are not worth knowing anyway Andy ===== You pass through this life but once. So if there is any kindness you wish to show to your fellow man, do it now. You will never pass this way again. ___________________________________________________________ALL-NEW Messenger - all new features - even more fun! http://uk.messenger. Guest guest
Thanks everyone who responded! I think I will mention the alternative health/medicine, home birthing and breastfeeding topics and leave the vaccination topic until I meet people face to face. And yes vaxing is mandatory in France and it is only by pure luck that my children are enrolled in school here! Certainly don't want to draw any attention to myself at this stage! I think they only do medical exemption (this is a coutry where you are not even allowed to wear a cross around your neck as a sign of your religion!), but the medical exemption is only if your child really does have a valid " medical " reason for not being immunised. There is absolutely nothing wrong with my children (I wonder why!!??) so they don't actually qualify for this exemption. Its not easy to find a doctor/homeopath who will happily " lie " for you. Guest guest
<<One of the questions on their application form asks if I would be willing to speak to other parents about any particular parenting issues and be listed on their support register.>> I would wait for now, until you do get an idea of how the idea would be received. I'm sure if you want to be public about it later you can just tell whomever you gave the form to, to add the info later. Nothing is ever written in stone, however, it is usually easier to give little info in the beginning and expand on it later, than the other way around. ;-) Ohio )0(~~~)0(~~~)0( Mom to Brittany, born 8/31/93, dx'd-IDDM 5/28/01; , born 6/28/97; and Shayna, born 6/1/00. Guest guest
Vaccinations are bad for the health of children. Guest guest
Of course its not lying, but to be eligible for a medical exemption the child needs to have a pre-existing condition, such as an immune- system disorder for example, which means that their health would be adversely affected by the vaccine, if your child doesn't have such a pre-existing condition then you are not eligible for medical exemption, the fact the the child will more than likely develop such a condition " after " the vaccine is not considered! This is what I was led to believe by several doctors I have spoken to. None of them were prepared to give me a medical exemption. Deb > > Isn't vaxing mandatory in France, Debbie? Guest guest
Is it possible (sorry missed a lot of thread) to just stay out of official way - not see the doctor, home ed etc to avoid it? Guest guest
I don't know about that. I believe that most doctors now-a-days are owned by the pharm companies. I found a doctor that will give a medical exemption (lifelong) and all I had to do was bring the form and we all signed it and made copies and that was that! - Angelina due: 10/26/04 OT - Small Dilema > > > > > > > > > Hello to all > > > > > > I am just about to join a mothers support group here in France > which > > > is for english speaking parents.
