Guest guest
, I can't help with the doc in Phoenix ... I live in Chicago! But I will recommend looking at family practice over pediatricians. They are sometimes less stringent on the idea of vax'ing. We have a family doc. Liam's 16 months old and we went at 1 week, 2 weeks, 6 weeks for weight checks. I was nursing exclusively which I'd never done before and wanted to make sure he was doing ok. I took him in at 6 months again, for reassurance (silly momma of 3 LOL). We didn't go back until he was 13 months old and had whooping cough - we were then back 2 more times for weight checks. We are pretty comfortable knowing that our son is happy, healthy. I'm lucky in that our group doesn't vax their own children. If no one on the board can help, maybe give them a call and see if they know anyone in your area (www.homefirst.com). My 2nd is just a thought - I know I totally will be alone on this one on this group LOL ..... IF you are having your baby in a hospital, you might want to consider the eye antibiotic for one reason only ... MAN ALIVE hospitals are nasty nasty places, just plain dirty and at least this MIGHT afford the baby some protection against anything that a worker might pass on to the baby's eyes. I know it sounds silly, but that was the only thing I let them give my son ... there were other issues ... such as them having to respond to the state because I didn't want it - to protect the nurse's jobs ...... even the group I go to said that it was easier to let them to this one thing, than to have CPS show up at my doorstep because of overzealous personnel. Guest guest
It will probably be hard finding a pediatrician to respect your decision on not vaccinating. They believe you are putting your child's health at risk by not vaccinating. You may be able to find one that won't be as pushy though. I took my son to a D.O. and he still believed in vaccinating but not starting them until they are 2 years old. However, he was respectful of my decision of not getting anymore vaccinations for my children. Just know that you are doing the right thing for your child! I wish that I would have researched this while I was pregnant because my oldest son has severe allergies and asthma which I believe is from vaccinating. Good luck in finding a doctor you will be happy with.
Guest guest
, there are ped out there that won't push it. There is one here locally that has a ton of books in her office as to why we shouldn't vaccinate and just as many as why we should. Plus, this ped does not believe that you should take the Vitamin K shot...particularly for girls. I have a friend that is a doula and she did not get the Vitamin K or the eye ointment with her son. She said you could easily put some milk in his eyes, but really you don't need it. Another thought on that would be colloidal silver for the eyes...if you are really wanting something. She also recommends having a plan. Print it out on the sheet, but still watch the baby and don't let him go off on his own. Like someone already said....sometimes, they still do these things. I would take several copies of your birthing plan with you. Post one up in your room, give one to the front desk, and have one on you or give it to the doc. Guest guest
Without reading anybody else's responses, I got a doctor doing what you did when I moved to IL a few years ago (I have since moved to OH and found a like-minded physician following the same techniques). I emailed this list, and in IL along with others responded. In addition, I emailed an autism list (my son has high functioning autism from vaccines). If you can, join an autism group at that is in Phoenix, and ask for a doctor's name. It does not matter that you have no child with autism, I guarantee you that somebody on an autism list does NOT vaccinate and knows a physician that supports them and will be HAPPY to provide you a name. In addition, there will always be people in a La Leche Group that do not vaccinate. I had a homebirth with my last because I wanted to avoid the vaccine scene and because I have fast labors (no early labor-1 min contractions 3 minutes apart from the start); my husband was working an hour away; I did not know anybody to help drive me. Like in IL, I went to Homefirst, which is the biggest homebirth practice run by FP's. I had the same experience where my physician said it would raise eyebrows if I refused the eye ointment, but not the Vitamin K shot (like you, I was told that they would only do it if the birth was traumatic-mine was not). What I was told differently is that the eye ointment is not just for STD's. There is a lot of good/bad bacteria in our vagina, and SOME babies who don't get the ointment develop an eye infection (which can be treated with breastmilk squirted in it). What they don't tell you at the hospital is that the ointment does not have to be applied at birth. Usually the baby is awake for awhile after birth, then goes into a long sleep. If you decide to get the ointment to avoid getting hassled, you can insist it be applied when your baby goes to sleep. I did this, and by the time she woke up, the stuff was mostly absorbed and I gently rubbed off the rest with a sterile towel. > Hello! Guest guest
My whole family goes to the DO. He also delivers lots of babies. He prescribes way too many antibiotics in my opinion but I just don't have them filled. <g> My main reason for using him is I was told I wouldn't have any hassles about not vaxing and I haven't. He's great if you're the type of person that doesn't go to the Dr. very often. in AZ > Hello! I've been a member for a while, but just reading the list of > messages. Guest guest
- Thank you for your reply and best wishes! We will look into a DO/Family practice doc. Guest guest
Sara- Thank you for your reply & congrats! Thanks for the support too about leaving him intact, it's been difficult with some of the negative comments we have recieved. But, we fill we are making the best decision. The circumcision issue was the only issue this doc had a clue on, he explained a lot about the forskin that I have read. (I know people that left their son's intact and used vaseline to lubricate it and retract the forskin before the child was even 1!) I will keep talking to people and look for a DO or family practice, that would probably be a better option as some people here have posted. And we will be sure someone will stay with baby every moment at the hospital. Thanks again for your reply! - > , > Congrats on the impending birth of your son and THANK YOU for keeping him intact as is every child's right! > Try asking through LLL,at hfs's,or chiro offices for a decent doctor.I was linked to our current ped through a wife of a chiro I met online. I just scanned through your post(cooking breaskfast over here),but wanted to make sure you find a doctor who has common sense when it comes to normal male anatomy(and not retracting). Just for the hell off it you can drop off a list of vaccine injuires covered by NVICP to the idiot ped who said vaccines cause no harm.I mean DUH! > Best wishes finding someone.Never let that baby out of sight.Vaccines and circumcision happen despite refusal forms! > Sara

Guest guest
Thank you Donna, for your reply. We will keep looking and look into a D.O. I have heard about using breastmilk for the baby's eyes, if needed. We do have a birth plan and will take a few copies, and either my husband, myself or my mom will acompany the baby at all times. Guest guest
- Thanks for your reply. I will check into the autism groups, that's a great suggestion. I also didn't know that the eye ointment didn't have to be applied at birth and that it could be delayed. My main concern was the first few hours of bonding with our baby, I want him to be able see us. It wouldn't be so bad when he goes to sleep. I'll discuss that further with my midwife. Thanks for the suggestions, I really appreciate it! - > Without reading anybody else's responses, I got a doctor doing what > you did when I moved to IL a few years ago (I have since moved to OH > and found a like-minded physician following the same techniques). > > I emailed this list, and in IL along with others responded.
