Has she seen a cranial osteopath, Vince? If not, I'd be inclined to give it

a try. Very often have breastfed babes with persistent crying problems

which have no apparent obvious cause and many respond very favourably to

cranial osteopathy. Can I ask what sort of delivery your wife had?

Section, assisted, long, short?

Hi Vince,

I could try and explain it but I know I couldn't do as good a job as this:

http://www.cranial.org.uk/page3.html. This is a UK organisation, but I am

sure that you must have an equivalent in the US. Sometimes mums use

cranio-sacral therapists in the US - whether it would have the same benefits

I don't know, as there is a subtle difference between the two approaches,

but this may give you something to consider that could provide relief. It

could be that she is structurally uncomfortable with feeding, and this may

reveal why that is.

While this article implies that it is only babies who have assisted

deliveries that may be helped by CO, it is actually very effective for *all*

babies, irrespective of difficulty (or lack of) during delivery. My CO

believes that every baby should have some adjustment right after birth which

is when they're most receptive, but it is effective at any age. I'm 49 and

I've had some CO in the past year for long-standing sinus discomfort and it

has helped immensely.

Love, light and peace,

Sue

Hi Sue,

I am really interested in what this is also, but the link is not

working?????

Vince,

We used Mylocon drops for first two, never seemed to really do much.

First, you have to determine if it really is gas... and there is

really no way to know for sure, the baby can't exactly tell us. But

if we really felt like it was, we massaged their tummy and moved

their legs around to break it up. Also try feeding her in a

different position, more sitting up, a different side, etc... You

can also try a different bottle or nipple, sounds dumb but you never

know. Sometimes baby is just uncomfortable with the shape of the

nipple.

Try simple things first. :)

ok, I don't know about safety etc about Mylocon, but we did use the

Walmart Equivalent of these (cheaper).

I can honestly say, they sometimes worked, sometimes did not. I

found they worked best if I gave them to my children when they ate

the offensive food (or if they were nursing if they had the drops

after nursing apr. 8 hrs or so after I ate the offensive food. They

were not great, and I also tried chammomile tea for gas- they do have

some more natural stuff available. My daughter was hard to burp, and

they did sometimes help with that.

I agree that " cycling " the babies legs was very effective for gas.

For us, I found that when I eliminated tomatoes, grapes, and plums

from my diet my daughter had less gas and less crankiness.

I found that if I kind of massaged- like I was playing piano kinda

finger movements, on the babies belly/abdomen- genlty- that I could

sometimes feel a gas bubble, and this also sometimes helped to break

up any gas.
