I took my 3 year old into the dentist today for her very first fillings and

stupid me forgot to mention this visit that I wanted composite (I told them a

week ago) and lo and behold she walks out with silver. I freaked and refused to

pay for it. So what is in her best interest now? Remove it and risk it

releasing mercury or let it be since it is just in her baby teeth?

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!

PS

every chew releases mercury

Anything hot in there releases mercury

and don't bother going to dentists who do this as you will face problems

every time of some sort

FIND a dentist who 'gets' it and you won't have these

issues..............about anything.

Get a dentist who is a mercury free dentist to take it out as drilling it

out releases vapors, because of the heat produced by the drill especially.

A good dentists knows to run cold water constantly while drilling it out.

Find a dentist that is health oriented, not just anybody

Agreed. But, since we can't afford to pay for dental ourselves, and our

kids are on Medicaid, we are limited to only one dentist in town...they

don't 'get it', but they'll just have to deal with us!

In the future, you may want to consider accompanying her into the dental

chair. I won't let my kids out of my sight (my oldest is 9) when the

dentist is working on them!

Thank you all for your advice. I have scheduled her for Thursday morning to

have them removed. I asked to speak to the dr. and I quizzed him about how

exactly he was going to do this. He had all the right answers, using cold water

constantly etc. He said he feels the same as I do, but that in the " practice "

the standard for baby teeth is amalgam and he couldn't apologize enough. I guess

the hygienist was reprimanded a tad about not asking me. Anyway, I'm VERY

comfortable at this place, a pediatric practice and so are my kids.....they BEG

to go there LOL. I am very comfortable without me being at their side during

procedures as I know they get MUCH crazier if I " m around, but thank you all so

much and hopefully this headache will be over soon. Anything I can do after

they drill the mercury out to help her along?

rolled the mercury pellet between her fingers to show how *harmless* it is.

Well, make a point of visiting her in a few years and see how she is, if

she hasn't committed suicide already. Dentists have the highest rate of

suicide I think of any profession. Not sure.

I have read this before that dentists have the highest rate of suicide, it makes

sense that the mercury exposure would be the cause! Ah ha!!

I am SO happy to know this. I have SEVERAL amalgam fillings that need to

come out. I talked to my dentist today when I went in for a cleaning. He

doesn't know any holistic dentists (I played it off as I knew someone moving

here that needed one) and proceeded to ask him about his removal methods.

He mentioned something specifically that he tries to keep the heat down (he

said this, I never mentioned it) and that he uses water throughout the

process. I was like WOOO HOOO ... now, to get them out..... I HATE the

dentist.

Thanks, Sheri, so much for all the information! has one amalgam

filling that needs to come out. I was one of those " I totally forgot to tell

them to use composite " moms.

in IL

about anything.
