Guest guest
As someone who got tetanus from the vaccine, I can't recommend it.
Guest guest
Well, if it makes you feel any better, I also live in the Midwest (Iowa) and I have never received any vaccinations including tetanus. I've never had any problems and I remember once when I was 8 years old I cut my finger down to the bone on a can lid. It required stitches on the inside and outside. My parents were advised to get a tetanus shot for me, but they refused and I never had any problems. I've had tons of gashes too and no problems with anything. unvaxed mommy to Jaeden and Kendra (both also unvaxed) Tetanus vaccination ?? Hi, everyone. My 4 yr daughter smacked her head against a serving table at a wedding today and now has a gash about an inch long and 1/4 or so wide. We took her to the urgent care so they could clean it up and they used a dermabond to close it. While we were there, I mentioned that we had chose not to vaccinate her and that IMMEDIATELY brought up concerns with tetanus. I know that the chance of an infection on head wounds like this is very low because of the many blood vessels there that so effectively flush out any problems. This is my daughter's first wound of this nature so it's causing me to second-guess my decision not to vaccinate, at least where tetanus is concerned. My family and I live in the midwest, Minnesota USA, and out here farmland, gardens, and the like are all prevalent. Aren't those all places where that bacteria are found most often?? I guess what I'm thinking is that even if my daughter doesn't suffer from tenatus THIS time, as long as we're in the midwest she could have tons of brushes with the bacteria! Does that make it worth getting? Would the tetanus vaccination be effective even if it's given AFTER signs of tetanus appear? The way I'm feeling tonight, I want to take my daughter, my son, AND myself (we are all completely not vaccinated) to get this tetanus shot!!! Thanks for any input on this. I've been able to stand firm on my decision not to vaccinate my children thus far and today's incident has really shaken me up. Amazing what a little injury can do to test your faith on this position. Take care all, @~}~}~~~~ St. , MN _____
Guest guest
I would love to hear others' opinion on this as well. I recently slashed open my toe and had to have stitches, Because the injury was caused by an axe, they pressured me to get a tetanus shot. I have doctor phobia, or white coat syndrome, or whatever you want to call it- I just about hyperventilated and couldn't stop crying the whole time I was there (I was pretty much hysterical). My husband also wanted me to get the shot, and at that mentally vulnerable moment, I caved. I got the shot, and my shoulder was sore and swollen for quite some time. But the same paranoia happened to me: what would I do if it had been one of my children?? I got most of my vaccinations when I was young, so it's easier for me to justify something like this when it comes to myself. But my precious children?? I just don't know...I've been thinking about this a lot. We live in the country, and will be playing in the dirt a lot this summer (we just moved out here). -- Breezy s - Facilitator, Blissful Hearth School Lady LasairĂona of Grey Cliffs - Seneschal, Shire of Hrafnsfjord, Oertha, West {{Whats right is not always popular; Whats popular is not always right.}}
Guest guest
Your dd probably got a far better immediate cleaning than my son did.I would not worry about Tet,but again you need to do what you feel is best. ITA with Sara. The summer before last, was playing with Harley in the yard. Somehow he managed to slide int eh grass & get an old nasty fish hook in his knee. I called a friend of mine who doesnt' vax & said, can your dh get this out. I took him over there. I did NOT want to deal wtih the ER. Just about the time that was going to give up, the skin tore a little & the hook came out. We tried really hard to bleed it, but there just aren't a lot of vessels there. So, we bled what we could & I gave him lots of vit C & A & D for 3 or 4 days. The wound never even turned red. It was amazing. I used A & D ointment on it as well.
