Guest guest
Sansone Walk Away the Pounds Express - 1 Mile tape (Good Times video, VHS, 08-02898) $12.99 in Suncoast Video It takes place in the same exercise studio some of her other videos were taped in, the one with the brick archway behind the exercisers. Some of the exercisers are the same people who appear in other videos, too, a nice mix of women from ages 27 through 65, plus a 72 year old man. Most are very thin, including the older guy. The moves are the basic WalkAerobics ones - walking in place, kicks, knee lifts, side steps, and kickbacks. Very easy for a beginner, yet an experienced exerciser can make it harder by changing the movements a bit, like kicking higher, bending down on side steps, etc. Most of the exercise is just these steps, but for about 4 minutes a short amount of resistance work with a stretchy band is done. This band isn't included, and the box doesn't tell you one is required. I have a few bands from 's tapes, and I probably could have used some hand weights, too, in its place. Why did I immediately dislike this tape? A few minor, but annoying, reasons. As soon as you see the group of women you're hit with a sea of turquoise, as everyone (except the guy) was wearing a slinky knit form-fitting turquoise tank top, that looked like it had a built-in bra, because with the thin spaghetti straps on this top and the fact that every woman, no matter how endowed (or not), had an una-boob. This top looked silly on one of the women who *wasn't* model-thin, as it was so taut it hugged every roll of fat on her body. And the poor woman who *was* well-endowed and was bending over during the cool-down! I thought there was going to be some " fall out " there for a second! I hate uniforms - must be the years I had to wear one in Catholic school - and I feel everyone should be allowed to wear what they want when exercising, even when the outfits *are* being supplied by a sponsor. The second reason I dislike this tape is the music. The first 4 minutes it appears that nobody is hearing this booming drum beat and chanting, because not one person is stepping to the beat, and rarely were they even in step with each other during this time. I wonder if this part was done with no soundtrack and it was dubbed in later, or they changed songs after it was filmed. After that 4 minute warm-up the music changes and suddenly everyone is in step. *Now* it looks like a regular Sansone video. Another problem I had was that resistance segment. I had no problem with my stretchy band, just wondered what the heck was doing. During this 4 minute segment it seemed to be a repeat of the first 4, with nobody moving in beat to the music, and with the arm movements out of step with the foot movement. The feet would be moving 1-2-3-4, 1-2-3-4, but the arms would be moving 1-2-3, 1-2-3. I stopped looking at the screen and just moved my arms in time to the music. Some of the women in the video did, too, but not and the rest of them. And it was at the end of this 4 minute resistance segment that the exercise segment of the video stopped. No slowing down, just stopped abruptly. spoke a minute or so, and then led everyone in the cool down stretches for 2 1/2 minutes. The warm up & aerobics & resistance part of the video lasted a little over 15 minutes, add the cool down, and the whole thing lasted a bit less than 20 minutes, start to finish. Will I continue to use this video? Yes. I'll listen to the music and move to the music and not watch so close, and it'll be fine. I'll get used to the flood of turquoise una-boobs. I'll do a little slow walk while gabs before starting the cool-down stretches. Was it worth the money I paid for it? Sure! As I mentioned yesterday, these short work-out sessions I can easily do, and can usually find the time to do them if I set my mind to it. If I'm especially energetic (or need to warm up, like today with the furnace out again), a quick exercise session like these one-mile walks get the circulation going and the blood pumping. How about the rest of you? Have an exercise video you'd like to talk about?
