Hi all,

Well today makes 4 days in a row of exercise! I am running a bit

behind today as I ended up falling asleep curled up in a blanket

after I got Miranda on the bus and before Meredith and Emma woke up.

Now that things are back to " normal chaos " instead of " chaos from

hell " I am hoping that getting back on my meal plan will be much

easier. So far so good today, and planned meals are yummy and I'm

looking forward to them.

How's everyone else doing?

How about trying some frozen or canned fruits and veggies. We don't

eat alot of canned fruit around here, but Miranda (7yr old) likes to

take it in her lunch for school. I open a can and get 3-4 days out

of it for her. I put mine in a pint jar to save it since they say to

take it out of the can after opening.

> The fact that I live on a

> pension and SS keeps me on a budget.

My parents are live on pesnion and SS, and in their area there is

what they call " grandma's cupboard " where they can get things once a

month by the pound, and it's pretty cheap, less then $.20/lb for

everything be it meat, canned goods or paper products, they just

weigh it up and pay for it. I know my mom has gotten alot of things

there.

> My meals are so blan. Cereal and soy milk for breakfast,

> occassionally a piece of fruit.

Mine depends on the day, normally oatmeal, or cereal, sometimes an

egg and toast, other days just some fruit. I really am not a

breakfast person at all.

>Lunch is a reduced calorie bread

> with tuna, or egg, or veggie burger and fruit.

I made up a bunch of brown rice the other night for dinner and froze

it up in single serving sizes that way I can make my stirfry and have

rice without much hassel. Also this summer I would make a big pot of

veggie gumbo and freeze that in single serving sizes as well. I

could have soup and salad for lunch and still have pleanty of windows

left over. As far as the stifry goes I like to get the packages of

broccoli slaw or cabbage that are already made (like bagged salads)

when they are on the reduced rack (outdated) they normally last a

good week past their date and work great for stirfry's without much

hassel. Frozen veggies are my second choice, but there are several

different companies that have bagged stirfry mixes as well.

Normally my lunch is soup/salad/fruit rarely is it a sandwich I hate

to use my carbs too early in the day.

>Dinner is a Lean

> Cusine and fruit.

would it be possible to make up some of your own meals and freeze

them up? It would probablly be a little lower in sodium, and maybe

taste a bit better.

>Can't keep salad greens on hand because they go

> bad and I love a salad, which I can surely have.

Have you tried buyin the bagged salads? I know they only last a week

at most, but they work well to just take out a bowl or so full and

add a few veggies to them to make a good salad. I also buy fresh

spinich on occasion to add to mine and then when it starts to wilt I

just cook it up and either freeze it or use it in other dishes.

I don't know if any of this has helped at all... just a few idea's.

> So what is a yummy

> meal??????

Lunch was stirfry with brown rice and a teryaki sauce (normall I make

my own sauce).

Dinner is going to be meatloaf with shredded zucchini, onion, green

pepper, spices and then we top with yellow mustard & ketchup mixed

together. I'm not sure of the side dishes.. either Mac-n-cheese w/a

salad or Mashed potatoes and green beans. Hubby and the kids will

probablly have some bread and butter with it, but I will skip that..

enough carbs with the potatoes or mac-n-cheese.

> Oh, I'm in day five and lost a pound I think.

That is great! Keep up the good work!

I have a tendency to live high off the hog.

I buy those Dole Fruit Cups - individual size - about $2.69 for 4

cups. I like them a lot and they go fast.

I also buy fresh fruit, apples, oranges, grapefruit and tangerines,

all of which keep rather well. I do buy frozen veggies and some

meat, Lean Cusines, and chix products. You can imagine L.C. are

relatively expensive at $3.19 each for the lunch size, which I have

for dinner. I try to buy on sale when I can. I really don't like to

cook and would rather open a box. Cereal, my morning staple, as you

probably know is outrageously high in price. I buy that on sale

also. I can't digest dairy so I drink soy milk at $1.79 a quart.

The bugeted money goes fast.

> Well today makes 4 days in a row of exercise!

That's fantastic a!

It's 34 here in Houston this morning so I'm going to drive Lynn to school

instead of hopping on my bike. Brrrrrr! My parents gave us a VCR for

Christmas so I can set that up in the bedroom. There should be room for

WATP in there. The problem is that everything from my wet closet is now in

the bedroom so I need to clean that up today so I can start doing videos in

there.

Lynn starts back to school today. It's so hard to get back into the routine

of getting up early and getting her to school on time. I feel like I'm

forgetting something. It's going to be quiet around here today with just

Vonn and I. We'll just putter around the house today and get the laundry

done and the Christmas decorations put away. It will be kind of nice to

have a quiet " homey day " after the hustle and bustle of the holidays. Vonn

starts back to preschool on Thurs. then we'll be back to our normal

schedule.

What I found worked for me was to spend a day cooking and freezing individual portions. thank goodness for the crockpot! I've almost always had limited funds, I understand what you're saying. Do you have a dietary restriction that you can't spice up some of your meals? I go through a lot of garlic and onions - can you tell I'm single LOL). a salad lasts for quite a few days - what about making one and eating it everyday - you should run out of days before you run out of salad - at least I do here.

congrats on your loss so far - keep up the good work!

I only get those when they are on a super sale, I buy the larger cans. When I was working in an office, I'd take a Tupperware cup with my allotment in it. they just had the LC's or maybe it was healthy start on sale here for $2 so I tried the turkey and gravy - I was surprised it was good. I haven't been a fan in the past.

Well, if you are single and you can afford to do it I say there is

nothing wrong with it! :) I know that we have been having a

difficult time sticking to budges these days and I really have to

watch where the money goes.

I buy cereal as well, but normally generic stuff and the namebrand

only when I can get it on sale and even better when it's on sale

*and* I have a coupon for it. It is cheaper to get a box of cereal

and a box of fruit juice pouches for Miranda to take to school for

breakfast (doesn't want to get up any earlier to eat at home) then it

is to have her purchase her breakfast there at $1.35/day. She just

eats it dry but that is her choice. We don't go thru alot of milk

here, normally we can finish it just before it expires, but some

times the gallon sours before we can finish it.

Anyhow... do what works for you, and hey I'm for easier if you can

afford it ;)

Thanks Ann! Today makes day 5, but I'll post about my day in a

bit !:)

Whimp ;) LOL THe windchill this morning when I put Miranda on the

bus was a negative 13 and hasn't improved much thru the day.

That is great! Hopefully you will be able to get your room cleaned

out soon and start in there. I honeslty don't blame you for not

wanting to get out in this cold weather!

Yep! I hate getting up early, but I do enjoy the kids being back to

school. The first day I forgot Miranda's glasses, the poor kid went

without because I as not going to drive them in to her.
