I try to stock up on the tuna when on sale. Try and do the sale for veggies and fruits. BUT I would love some frugal recipes. Looking for ones that can be made up BUT modified to be healthier with stuff in the cabinets. Oh ya and the family wont know is good for them. LOL

Just a quick note on coupon queens such as myself.... LOL

I use www.thecouponclippers.com is wonderful to work with. She is the wife of a preacher and I believe she has 4 or 5 kids. She is also on the weightloss wagon and is so very sweet and easy to get along with. After a few times of paying promptly you are able to get on her preferred customer list and order without paying up front. She accepts paypal, cash, and checks as payment. She is also very quick to mail the coupons to you.

I would appreciate any frugal sites too. I like the challenge of saving

money anywhere I can too. I use coupons for as much as I can at the store

and stock up on items if there are sales and a good cpn to go with it. I do

refunds on everything too. in NY

I belong to a number of frugal lists on , and wound up putting them all

on No mail or unsubbing because it's a lot of commom sense advice, like

don't buy pre-cooked chicken in a package but buy raw and cook your own.

Well, Duh!

I only buy certain fruits fresh and the rest canned on sale. Veggies are

cheaper and in better shape around here frozen. Avoid canned veggies because

they lose too many nutrients in the canning process and are usually loaded

with salt. I buy canned salt-free tomatoes and use them at least 3-4 times a

week in various recipes.

Cook meals that take the least amount of meat and a large amount of

starches, and use better quality starches instead of white flour products or

white rice - use whole grains, brown rice, whole grain pasta, potatoes. The

added fiber will make everyone feel fuller on less food.

Eat as many vegetarian meals a week as your family will tolerate - meat is

way more expensive than beans. Make loads of soups & stews - meals that you

can add to to stretch out further and use up leftovers. Treat meat as a

condiment, not as the main ingredient.

LOL... yep, I know I joined 3 a few nights ago, and have gone no

mail on 1 of them, am still not recieving email from the other and

membership still pending on the third. The one has well over 1000

members and over 150 emails a day. So far I haven't seen anything

(other then making your own laundry soap) that I haven't seen

before.

I haven't really paied attention to the calories in canned fruit,

just always assumed that it was more then fresh even if it was canned

in it's own juices. I guess I'll have to go pull a few cans out.

I prefer frozen, but canned seem to go on sale pretty cheap (4/$1) I

do alot of green beans so I get those and corn and then tomatoes. I

could have done double the amount of canned tomatoes and probablly

still not had enough. I guess one good thing about doing you own

canning is that you don't have to worry about how much salt is in

it. I don't add any to mine.

This year I have been thinking about doing pole beans in the garden

and freezing them up. I want to do more tomatoes, and plan on

working in the garden more this year to cut back on groceries. I

figure I can freeze alot of them, plastic bags are cheaper then jars

and lids and I have the room. I am hoping to get some more berries

in this year easier to get to then the wild ones, even though I will

still pick those! :) I'm not sure how many berries to expect the

first couple of years anyways.

Also I am thining about spraying the apple and pear trees to make the

fruit a little less buggy so I can do more then just jam with them.

Yep... I'm already thinking ahead to gardening and what I'm going to

plant... the garden bug has hit early this year! I had forgotten I

purchased 2 day lillies, 2 peonies, and 50 tulip bulbs when on

clearance ($.50-$1.00/ box) and had yet to get them in the ground...

so today when we had a warm front pop thru before the cold front that

is comming I ran out and planeted them all, and then washed the

dogs.. I don't think they've had a bath in a couple of years.

I just have such a hard time with this one.... ya know me I *LOVE* my

starches and with trying to stick with 's plan there aren't

enough starches in the day for that. I've already thought about all

the different things that I could add rice or pasta or beans or

potatoes to. I used to make scrambled eggs with rice just to make

the eggs go further. I know eggs are cheap, but even cheaper with

rice added. We are still eating some of the powdered eggs my mom got

me, they taste just as good and were VERY cheap. I wish I had more

because my supply is getting low.

LOL... No meat with my husband??? So I can get by with vegetarian

for breakfast and lunch, but no way at dinner time.

Make loads of soups & stews - meals that you

Our small christmas dinner roast made 3 meals for us... Christmas day

roast and stew 2 other nights. I also did this with our Turkey for

Thanksgiving. We had several meals out of that, and our last bag of

left over meat made 3 meals as well. Turkey and dumplings, Turkey

soup and more turkey soup. Mind you it wasn't a huge bag.

I have also picked up some Barley to make soup with as well. I was

reading the recipes on the box and they don't take very much meat. I

thank god for the venison in the freezer! I will have to catch the

guy that hunts rabbits on the neighboring property and let him know

he can hunt ours as well. He has offered me some rabbit this year

and am hoping that will get us some a little quicker! Now to figure

out exactly what to make with it!
