Guest guest
Brent, Just to add my two cents' worth......I also can tell when a storm is coming. If it's rain that's coming, I know a day or two ahead of time. If it's winter and there's a snow storm coming, I know up to a week ahead of time. I laugh hysterically at the weather stations as they " try " to forecast the pending storms, knowing that *I* can predict the weather WAY better than they can! As a matter of fact, I have a couple of people who will rely on ME to tell them how much snow is coming! Isn't it nice to be a walking barometer?? Guest guest
> it was 38 this morning About 10 degrees cooler than us. Ed wore his winter coat today and says it was probably the end of the fall jacket for this year. Today is still windy but not as bad as yesterday. >I've been freezing all moring > long since it's only 67 in the house. That's around what our house is. Yesterday the whole building kept shaking in the wind. If you've ever been up on the upper floors of a skyscraper and felt the whole building sway, that's how it was here all day and night. Too bad dinner is already made > cuz I would put something in that would need to cook all day to help > heat the house up! On those really cold winter days when this owner kept the heat at the bare legal minimum (I think 62 daytime, 55 night) I would put my biggest soup pot on the stove and fill it with water and keep it simmering on low all day long, adding more water as needed. Sometimes for a kick I'd toss a cinnamon stick or 2 in. I buy the big jars of Badia brand when they're on sale 2/$5, and I still have over half a jar left over from last year. It adds needed moisture to the air and gives off a little bit of needed heat. Sue in NJ glad for cooler temps
Guest guest
> > it was 38 this morning > > About 10 degrees cooler than us. Yep and 31 this morning... brrrrrrr Ed wore his winter coat today and says it > was probably the end of the fall jacket for this year. Today is still windy > but not as bad as yesterday. My 5 yr old can still wear hers, but only because she gets on the bus at 11:30 and it has warmed up a bit by then. My 7 yr old is already in the habit of grabbing for her winter coat. > That's around what our house is. Yesterday the whole building kept shaking > in the wind. LOL Now when it was happening to our house a year ago when we were having 60MPH winds with higher gusts it was a little nerve wracking because I wasn't sure how well the put the second level on the house. I mean I saw them put it on there with the crane, but I never saw anyone nail it down. I could just see the wind shoving the entire second floor off. LOL > > On those really cold winter days when this owner kept the heat at the bare > legal minimum (I think 62 daytime, 55 night) WOW! That is cold! I complaine because we are trying to save on heat and keep ours at 66 daytime and 62 at night during the winter months. I have several fleece throws laying around the living room, and I want to pick up some more. I'm actually tempted to sew a couple of them together just to make them bigger to snuggle in. It adds needed > moisture to the air and gives off a little bit of needed heat. Our furnace has a humidifier built in *so far* we haven't had a problem with needing more, but do have 2 humidifiers as well (one was MIL's and the other ours from before we moved). Hummmmm what to make today for dinner that I can cook a while a (who is wondering how long it would take to thaw a turkey breast under water.. oh well... maybe I'll pull it up for dinner in a couple of days) > > > Sue in NJ > glad for cooler temps

Now imagine being up on the third floor of a house almost 80 years old! This house shimmies and shakes more than any other house I ever lived in. > I could just see the wind shoving the entire second floor > off. LOL My dad has seen many roofs blow off down in Florida. He said construction is done so cheaply down there that this happens way too often. > WOW! That is cold! I'm here in a sweatshirt right now. When the sun comes around the front it'll be warmer here again. >I have several fleece throws laying around the living room, I was wrapped up in one of my quilts yesterday. Cozy! > and I want to pick up some more. I'm actually tempted to sew a > couple of them together just to make them bigger to snuggle in. Check prices - just grab a few yards on Wal-Mart if you have one - it may be cheaper than a "throw" in a package. Remember, it doesn't ravel so you don't even need any finish to the edges. Guest guest
Referring to the thunder this morning before it started to snow-- wasn't that awesome? I have never heard " thunder snow " before. Yesterday the prediction was 6-10 inches of snow starting at about 3:00 p.m. I completely knew THAT wasn't going to happen. The air was too cold and a bit too dry yesterday afternoon and evening for snow. Looks like we got about 2 inches overnight and now another 4 on top of that starting this morning. Kim > UM... in Minnesota... in January... on a highway without sidewalks? Are you mad woman? rofl! ) I WISH. Plus I own one pair of shoes (tennis shoes) and they don't work so well on snow and ice. Hehehe. > > I'll figure something out---I just haven't figured out just what yet. > > Ella > !

I have never heard " thunder snow " before. We get that during the really bad blizzards, the ones labeled the " Nor'Easters " that come in off the ocean and bring loads of moisture with them. > Yesterday the prediction was 6-10 inches of snow I wish we could tell all those weather prognosticators to just can it until the snow is physically falling! All day yesterday the stations around here were saying anywhere form one inch to over 6 inches overnight, continuing all day and night into Tuesday, when we could expect another 6-12 inches, before stopping on Wednesday. Well, we woke up to a slight dusting and it stopped before 9 am. Some stations are *still* saying 6 inches for today by 3pm - They should just look out the window before opening their mouths. As for tomorrow and Wednesday, I'll see *then* what's happening.
