Guest guest
UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL The other day I went shopping. You know, for toothpaste, Glide dental floss, and cutips. I happened upon a mirror that looked like it wanted to go home with me. It had a sticker on it that said 5X, so I picked it up, and I saw my face blown up 5 times. I nearly fainted! I saw wrinkles I never knew existed. I saw lines around my forehead, my eyes, and I noticed how deep the lines were from my nose all the way down to my chin. Laugh lines? Well, I wasn`t laughing. I figured it was the bad lighting in the drugstore, so I took it home to see if I looked different. I took the mirror in the kitchen. The lines were still there! I took it in the living room, and the lines followed me there! That night, I put this fancy moisturizer all over my face, and when I woke up, I grabbed the mirror to see if any of the lines had disappeared during the night. No luck! I became obsessed with that darn mirror! I then began holding the mirror up to see how the rest of me looked. I counted 37 freckles – all right, all right – AGE spots. Who am I kidding? I began creaming my whole body head to toe. I would stick to the sheets, and I couldn`t roll over. I finally put that mirror away – stuck it in a drawer face down! Look at all the time I wasted searching for my imperfection, and that`s not a healthy thing to do. Stop putting yourself under a microscope. Stop looking for your weaknesses. Start counting your strengths! Every year, God rewards us with a wrinkle here or an age spot there. When you look in the mirror, you should be looking at something else! First look at your eyes and feel the warmth that lives inside them. Then look at your smile, and yes, you have to smile first before you can look at it. As you are smiling, think of something funny that happened to you that will make you laugh. Look at yourself laughing! Now that`s just looking at perfection, isn`t it?
