Ear infection/antibiotic question

I was hoping someone out there might be able to provide some good advice.

My 5 year old son who has never had an ear infection before(non vax) has

come down with what the Dr. diagnosed as a very bad middle and external

ear infection. He has been in terrible pain for 2.5 days.

I hate giving my kids antibiotics but the Dr. insisted that it was

necesasry in his case since it was so bad.

Against my best judgement and fear of more serious problems, I went ahead

and filled both prescriptions(One Amoxicillian oral and one antibiotic

drops) and proceeded to give him one dose of each. This was this

morning.

Now I totally regret my decision. After much research I am finding that

kids who receive antibiotics

end up with more recurrent infections not to mention other problems

stemming from antibiotic use.

I feel like such a bad MOm, but after being up with him all night for the

last two nights, in constant pain, I just felt helpless!

I dont know if I should just discontinue the antibiotic, I have heard

that stopping it once started can cause bacteria resistance issues, or

since we have only done one dose it wouldn't affect him to stop and just

step up the natural remedies.

We did do three different homeopathic remedies but none seemed to work.

We alos did olive oil in the ears, colloidal silver, grapefruit seed

extract and essential oils like frankincense, lavender, tea tree.

He seems a bit better this evening but I hate to have another sleepless

night! I am 6 months pregnant with three other kids and I need my rest.

Any info or advice would be very helpful, he was due for his second dose

this afternoon and we didnt do it.

Thanks so much,
