.....The tetanous vax IS NOT GOING TO PREVENT tetanous. It ONLY has to do

with wound hygiene. Getting the vax will not make ANYONE immune to tetanous.

If the wound is not cleaned out thoroughly, and he's been vaxed....he's still

going to get tetanous.

Tetanus scare; please reassure!

My unvaxxed 16 month old stepped on something in the house and got a

small cut on the bottom of his foot. I'm pretty sure it was a piece of

glass because we broke one on Saturday, and despite our best efforts to

clean it up...you know how it goes. I noticed the wound on Monday.

Tuesday it looked the same. Today it was swollen, red, and had pus

around it, so I took him to the doctor. She cleaned it out and put a

wrap on it...and then I got the tetanus shot lecture.

Her arguments were that ANY wound, from indoors or outdoors, that gets

infected is at risk for tetanus. It was pretty darned infected, and he

walks around barefoot so Lord knows what got in it afterward (I couldn't

keep a Band-aid on him). She went so far as to tell me the signs to

watch out for in case of tetanus and to take him straight to the ER if

they occur.

I stood my ground, told her I did not want to even consider vaccines

until age 2, and the risk of tetanus is so miniscule, it hardly ever

happens, he was indoors, there are no rusty nails lying around, I will

keep it washed out tonight and covered, and he has a double ear

infection besides so he's not even well. I told myself that my

grandmother's family went barefoot on the farm nine months of the year

and no one ever got tetanus or a tetanus shot.

Still...the doubts linger. Please reassure me so I don't run back over

there tomorrow and get the darned shot...

.....and don't forget....the only way to treat tetanus is antibiotics (y'all

correct me if I'm wrong).

These doctors are idiots - tetanus has nothing to do with infection

Only you can make the decision

reread all my tetanus pages and did you use homeopathy?

tetanus isn't about rusty nails, its about where those nails are lying in

the ground - but you are right.
