Guest guest
Sorry for the cross-post, and I really mean that. I don't know what else to do, and I try to follow list rules, but I'm feeling kind of desperate right now...I will try to be complete here, but I need to be quick as well. Please, if acceptable, could you send emails to me directly, in addition to (or instead of) onlist? I am not home and had to set myself to nomail on most lists, and I do not want to miss anything. With the 24.6Kbps dialup I'm using, it is difficult to check at . Aidan is 27mo. He started developing a fever last night. 102.1F @ 11:40pm 102.9 @ 12:40am 103.6 @ 1:20am 104.9 @ 1:50am At this point, he woke up shaking as if shivering, and crying, obviously uncomfortable. His heart was pounding rapidly, but I did not count the beats. The heartbeat especially alarmed us, and we gave him a full dose (two droppers) of infant Tylenol even though I was originally going to do only half. I didn't WANT to do it at all. We were up for a while, short bath, eating ice chips, nursing on the couch, and he fell back to sleep so we went back to bed around 2:45am. He woke this morning at around 7:26am, fever back up to 104.8, shaking and crying, but amazingly agreeable to everything we were trying to do for him. We gave a half dose of Tylenol. I HATE doing that. I don't know what else to do. The fever was so high, and he was so uncomfortable. I know the Tylenol is bad, it's fighting his immune system, please, I need an alternative. To make all matters worse, we are 315 miles from home, so I am not near my chiro or my big jar of vitamin C powder. I will bring some of that on our next trip! (The powder, not the chiro.) I don't even know our pediatrician's phone number, but I can call my mom and have her look it up. Aidan's just always been so healthy. And it's New Year's Day, so the chiro is probably not at the office, but I can call and see if there's an emergency number. A close family friend near here is a ped, and we will probably be calling him after 9am -- just don't want to call too early, and Aidan seems comfortable now. But I know nothing about his practices. He may just say to give Tylenol every four hours, and that won't help me. Other symptoms include a runny nose and the shaking when the fever is high. No vomiting. We haven't tried food other than breastmilk, and I don't even know what to offer. Maybe Cheerios. It probably doesn't make a difference, but I'll mention this anyway. He hit his head last night at 10pm, right at the base of the skull. He cried and nursed and started falling asleep, which made me nervous right after hitting his head, but he WAS quite tired. An almost-finished-with-school medical student who was there checked his eyes and said there was no concussion. I talked to her later and she said that the head hit probably had nothing to do with the fever, but the fever could have caused all the lethargy. He was unusually lethargic, probably because he was getting sick. Another thing, he's been chewing on his fingers for weeks, and we may be soon seeing those last four molars. His first molars were rough, but they did NOT cause fevers of nearly 105. We are in the Rochester, NY area with dh's parents, who believe in giving lots of Tylenol. (help!) I really want to post my cell phone number, but I won't, but I can certainly telephone anyone who replies who thinks they can help us. Please reply to me directly. I will try to check at YG as well, but it is very slow. I'm now off to try to look at the files sections and websites of some of these lists. It is now 8:19am, and Aidan is contentedly playing with Daddy out in the living room. No sign of wanting to go back to sleep. Happy New Year. dh ds Aidan, 27mo ________________________________________________________________ The best thing to hit the internet in years - Juno SpeedBand! Surf the web up to FIVE TIMES FASTER!
