Guest guest
I have an off topic question that I hope someone can answer for me. If you can't, can you tell me of a list that would. My son has ADHD and dyslexia. I watch what he eats, his activity level, how much tv he watches and other environmental factors. We use natural remedies to treat his ADHD. Last school year he was on flax seed oil. It showed great results. So he started back on flax a week ago. I was giving him 2 tablespoons every morning. It has helped with his emotional level. But he was still being distracted at school. So I bought Focus Attention from Nature Sunshine. I gave him his first pill last night and one this morning before he left for school. I figure he will get the dosages before school and before bed (about 12 hours apart). Now here is my questions. 1. How soon could we start to see results from the Focus Attention. I know it could take a month or longer. But I'm sure the results could happen much quicker right? He will be finishing the bottle before a decision is made on how effective it is for him. I am just hoping that results will be quick. Here are the ingredients: a.. officinalis has been approved by the famous German Commission E for its ability to soothe the nervous system. a.. Ginkgo biloba is well known for its support of brain and circulatory health. a.. DMAE (dimethylaminoethanol) is a biodynamic nutrient used for memory and learning enhancement. It also quenches damaging free radicals. a.. Slippery Elm aids nutrient absorption and is used as a soothing and cleansing herb for the digestive system. a.. l-Glutamine is an amino acid that supports healthy brain activity and mental ability. a.. Grape seed extract is high in proanthocyanidins - highly active compounds that can readily neutralize brain-damaging free radicals caused by toxins or overstimulated brain metabolism. 2. In the last few days, it seems like he doesn't need as much sleep as he used too. Before the flax seed oil, it was a fight getting him up in the morning. For this week, he has gotten up when he hears my alarm go off or is already awake when it went off. Could this be because the flax seed oil is building up in his body and helping him? Or are the two not connected? 3. I give him supplements of ginkgo and zinc. I assume I should stop the ginkgo because the Focus Attention has it. But I should continue with the zinc, right? 4. Should I cut down on the flax seed oil or continue to give him 2 tablespoons? What about breaking up the dosage? `~*`~*`~* Holly~ momma to: iel (5/96) & Jenavieve (5/02) " The decision to have a child is to accept that your heart will forever walk outside of your body. Guest guest
I do not think this sounds like an appropriate formula. He needs an individual assessment, not some shotgun approach hoping that a commercial formula will work. I do not trust flax as a source of omega 3 fats because the body is not efficient at converting ALA to DHA that it can use. Please use fish oil (250 mg DHA) or Nueromins DHA derived from algae. I also give vitamin E (at least 200 IU) along with the DHA. I always give phosphatidyl serine (100-200 mg) to chilren in this situation, but he may need other things as well. I do not think ginkgo is effective or safe for children. Dosage of supplements depends upon body weight. There are many other effective treatments including homeopathy and Chinese herbs, but they need to be prescribed on the basis of his symptoms. Guest guest
It does sound like a plugged duct and possibly the beginning of mastitis. Is she feeling like she's coming down w/the flu? If so, then it's the beginning stages of mastitis. I have had GREAT success quite a few times in treating breast infections (including mastitis) with homeopathy. I think the most common remedy is phytolacca, but you would have to research the symptoms and find a remedy that most closely matches what she's dealing with. _www.kellymom_ (http://www.kellymom) does have a good homeopathic protocol that involves many different remedies. In the meantime, tell her to nurse with the baby's nose pointed at the spot, nurse as often as she can on that side and also to do warm compresses. Breast massage also helps. The absolute worst thing that she can do is not nurse on that side. It will only cause engorgement and cause the problem to get much worse very fast. Pumping will help if she is feeling discomfort and the baby won't nurse. _www.kellymom.com_ (http://www.kellymom.com) and _www.drjacknewman.com_ (http://www.drjacknewman.com) are both really good sites for breastfeeding information. Hope she's feeling better soon. a a Holland, CD(DONA), CLC, CBE Certified Birth Doula Certified Lactation Counselor Childbirth Educator **************Wondering what's for Dinner Tonight? Guest guest
Hi , I'm sorry your wife is going though this. It sounds like she may have Mastitis or a plugged milk duct. mom.com (http://kellymom.com) is an excellent resource on alternative treatments if this is indeed what she has. Just type in plugged duct in the search engine after you click on the link. If it's thrush, then there are also natural treatment protocols at that site as well. Good luck! futop123 <scottpenry@...> wrote: I know this is off topic but I am a little desperate. My wife is currently breast feeding our daughter and just in the last day or so she has developed a pink spot on one of her breasts about an inch or so in diameter. She is going to the doctor tomorrow just in case it is an infection or one is developing. I'm afraid her doctor is going to give her antibiotics as all the allopaths love to do and these antibiotics will get into the breast milk. So, my question is do any of you mothers out there know a natural way to heal an infected breast if that's what it ends up being. I have not yet convinced my wife that allopaths, for the most part, should be avoided. I'm still working on the " No Vaccines " angle with her. I have convinced her to at least wait and avoid most of the vaccines. I think she still wants to get the polio vaccine though. Guest guest
For plugged ducts and all manner of other problems: cabbage leaves. Yes, I am serious. Right off the head, leave it on until it wilts. Plus plenty of fluids and REST (this is the single biggest reason for problems). Guest guest
Put a cabbage leaf on it as a compress if she is in pain. Not sure why it works, but it's been long used. http://www.kellymom.com/bf/concerns/mom/engorgement.html#cabbage Kathy futop123 wrote: > > I know this is off topic but I am a little desperate. > > My wife is currently breast feeding our daughter and just in the > last day or so she has developed a pink spot on one of her breasts > about an inch or so in diameter. Guest guest
Hi , As a quick reference guide, I have found this quite useful - not in-depth, but a helpful point of reference. http://www.h-e-c.com.au/flyers/breastfeeding.pdf This happened to me when my dd was three weeks old. Sounds very much like the start of mastitis. Tell your wife to feed, feed, and feed some more. Massage the affected area gently in small circular movements towards the nipple - that will move a plug along if there is one, and there usually is! Massage while your baby feeds, if she can, and also lots of warm baths/showers, immersing the breast and affected area. If she can, get her to feed with baby lying down and her kneeling over babe - I know it sounds strange, but gravity will help shift the milk blockage and get if flowing freely. Get her to try taking fish oil supplements - these are reputed to prevent blocked ducts, and for the same reason, tell her to limit her intake of dairy produce - dairy is reputed to increase the likelihood of blockages. Get some cabbage leaves - although I have been told it *MUST* be Savoy cabbage (not sure if this is true or not), wash the leaves, chill them and cover the affected breast. Yes, it does work. Don't do what I did - I couldn't work out the problem, went to the doctor, was told if I didn't have antibiotics I wouldn't be able to carry on breastfeeding. Did as I was told, ended up with crippling breast thrush and a breast abscess. I had no infection - but I ended up with one!! I couldn t hold or feed my daughter for nine weeks. We fixed things in the end with homoeopathy, and I breastfed until she was 5½ years old - but no thanks to the allopaths!! Good luck. Guest guest
I used belladonna. It was a long time ago but I recall massaging and putting warm cloths on the breast, too, and nursing even though the pain about killed me. It did resolve but I was one step away from calling the doc. Guest guest
Hi - If it is indeed mastitis, then she doesn't need antibiotics. I have read that they can really do a number on an infant's digestive system through the breast milk - yeast, thrush, etc.... I would definitely recommend some homeopathic treatments and home remedies for it. I had a wicked case of it a few months ago and I wanted to get the antibiotics. Heck, I would have taken anything to alleviate the pain, but I stuck it out for my baby's sake and I felt better in about 2 1/2 days. The best thing is rest and having the baby nurse with his chin towards the plugged duct. I took a lot of hot showers and baths and massaged my breast and tried to work the clog loose. I also used a heating pad. I saw where some others suggested cabbage leaves - they did nothing for me. For me, the heat worked the best. As far as homeopathic remedies, Phytolacca is recommended. The Mom site has a lot of great info. And if worse comes to worse, YOUR jaw muscle is much stronger than the baby's. Maybe you can work the plugged duct loose. Best of luck to you and your wife.
