Guest guest
> Sue, what do you mean you haven't had your first snow yet? Dec. and Jan. are usually dry months. February and March are the months we traditionally get bombarded. Of course, we do have some years that are exceptions, like 2 of the 5 years we owned a house and had blizzard after blizzard from the first week of December into early April. As soon as we sold it, NJ has been pretty dry again. > figure out how to mail it, we could send you buckets of snow! No, thanks. You can keep all that white stuff up there to yourself. Around this city, one inch paralyzes the place, scarce parking is made even worse by people shovelling off their cars and piling the snow into any empty space they see, even if it's their neighbor's driveway. The city waits until it's 3-6 inches (7 - 15cm) to start to plow, so by then the streets are full of black ice. When they finally *do* plow, it's pushed up all along the driver's side doors of the cars parked, sometimes completely enveloping them if the snow is deep. This matches the passenger side, where the homeowner whose house you're parked in front of shovelled *his* snow while clearing his sidewalks. Last year we had one occasion, only around 2 inches of snow, and our car, a station wagon, was completely buried for 2 weeks before we could dig it out enough just to be able to get into it to warm up so the battery didn't die off. It took another 2 weks to be able to move it and be able to find a parking space within 5 blocks of the house. No, snow and urban NJ *don't* get along. > I am recovering, but of course my daughter had to catch it from me! Of course! And give it another week or 2 and you'll catch it right back, if your family is anything like ours. Even if you spray every known surface of the house with Lysol, that pesky virus finds some way back in. >not that she > considers herself a mere dog mind you! Of *course* not! > We still haven't found alternative housing, and since it is a new > year I will have to reapply to everywhere in the province ARGH!!!! > trailer to rent. Anything without stairs. I hear you! Just make sure to check out the size of the bathroom first. I was shocked to see that a trailer toilet area is the same size as the ones I find on a tour bus, meaning impossible for someone my size to not only get comfortable in but to actually come out of being totally, er, " fresh " , if you know what I mean. (Good thing there are no guys on this list). Now a mobile home is another story. My girlfriend has one in upstate NY and she has more room in that (doublewide) than I ever had in most apartments I've rented. Too bad they're not allowed in this part of the state. > The bit about the Pam, found on a science website, apparently > inhaling the oily spray can also cause it to coat your lungs, hence That's what I heard. > We also go bed early, I don't know, starting a new year clean and > sober just seems like a more welcoming idea! All the years that I've been an adult, I've only been to 2 NY Eve parties. One was while at work in ICU/CCU and we had non-alcoholic champagne for everyone awake, including the patients, and the other was at a local bar with 2 other couples and I was designated driver, so again, no booze. It's amazing how weird everyone else looks when you're the only one sober. Sue in NJ
