Guest guest
HOLLAND, HERE I COME! 1/18/2002 Yes, I`m saying hello to you from the airport here in Los Angeles. Yes, I`m getting on another plane – well, actually two – to get to Holland, Michigan to teach a big exercise class. (Click here for more info.) I always get a bit nervous when traveling. Am I gonna eat okay on the road? Will I get to exercise on the road? It`s very, very cold in Michigan right now, and that means no big power walk for me. I`ll be going out every weekend for the next 3 or 4 months. There are so many temptations! They give you those little, teeny bags of peanuts on the plane, and I always ask for pretzels because they`re fat free. I try not to eat the meals on board because they just don`t taste like real food to me. When I get to my room, I always find a little “Hello and Welcome Platter” that the hotel has left for me, and yes, the worst thing is on those platters – SANDWICHES! One of my downfalls! Stick anything between two pieces of bread, and I`ll follow you home! I immediately call and have them removed. I`m strong but sometimes not that strong! Then comes the exercise. If I can`t go outside, I just have to make my hotel room my personal gym. I start by stretching and warming up my body. Then I`ll put some music on the radio and do my aerobics. Then I hit the ground and do my crunches and pushups. I always pack my tonin` cords with me. Toning seems to give me immediate energy because so many of my muscles are working. Yes, like you, I make 50 million reasons why I don`t think I have to exercise that day, but I know how much better I will feel after my workout than when I started, and that makes me do it. I know some of the people from the event are taking me to an Italian restaurant for dinner. I`ll have salad and a cup of pasta with marinara sauce. I won`t even look at the menu. Who needs that temptation? Now you may not be traveling today, but you can still come up with so many excuses not to take care of yourself. You think about how much better and healthier you`ll feel if you don`t indulge in all those tempting foods and you don`t throw your exercise time out of the window. Yes, it is so tough, but you`re tough, too! So as I`m high in the sky counting clouds, I`ll be thinking of you when they pass those peanuts! HA HA!
