Guest guest
Hi Jaci! Yes, they are safe, I make them every fall and keep them in an air tight jar. I toast them at 350 F oven for five to 10 min stirring occasionally so they do not burn. Some people add spices, oil and salt, but it isn't necessary. The nice thing is that if you do it yourself, you can control what you put on them. 2 (two) teaspoons of pumpkin seeds counts as 1 fat window on the Foodmover programme. Guest guest
TWO teaspoons?!? That's not safe!! I just ate half a cup! ACK! PFFT! (LOL) I have 6 pumpkins worth that I rinsed and threw into a bowl. I then mixed in about 1 teaspoon of olive oil and 1/2 teaspoon of salt into that whole mess of seeds (it's filling two baking sheets) and have had them in the oven (at 175f) for two days now. They taste wonderful. - J > > Hey I have a question that's ON topic.. imagine that.. > > > > Anybody know the nutritional value of homemade roasted pumpkin > > seeds? Are they safe? Guest guest
Do you know the secret of finding Pumpkins that would yield the most seeds? A couple of weeks ago I got 3 pumpkins and all 3 had tons of seeds. This week I got another 3 and hardly any seeds! Just wondering if anyone has discovered a way to tell which are the best 'seed' pumpkins. Nikkie -- Re: Topic Question TWO teaspoons?!? That's not safe!! I just ate half a cup! ACK! PFFT! Guest guest
http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp/Data/SR13/sr13.html Jaci asked: > Anybody know the nutritional value of homemade roasted pumpkin > seeds? Are they safe? LOL! The link here: http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp/Data/SR13/sr13.html is for the USDA Food Nutritional Information database. From here you click a few buttons and get everything from calories to fiber to amount of ash in any food product. As for your roasted, unsalted pumpkin seeds, info for one ounce is at: http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/cgi-bin/list_nut.pl and the Energy/kcal is 147.987, meaning they're about 147 calories per ounce. Seeds and nuts *are* high in fat, you know. Sue in NJ Fat & Sassy

A few weeks ago Planter's Mixed nuts were > on sale for a dollar a can, regular price $3 or so, so I just *had* to get > them to have around " for company " . Ali really likes nuts.. I would keep them in the house & be fine... then all of a sudden I start on them... a handful here & there until they are gone... I have some in the house now & I am fine but.... I put them in a canister that you cannot see in... so I have done better this time!
