Guest guest
I think you are absolutely right, Kate! The key is not to give up our favorite foods forever, but learn how to live with them. Guest guest
I'm afraid I deserve the credit for that one. Old joke in my house. It's "code" for "you-know-what." Re: SARG KATE CHALLENGE! Guest guest
Sue that is the way it was at our house to. And I still have a hard time throwing anything out. We still don't throw much out either. If someone doesn't eat everything on their plate, then we feed it to the dogs. But what ever is left from the meal goes in containers in the fridge too. And we have it for another meal. We just can't afford to waste food either. But I try really hard not to eat anything the children don't finish. Of course I have (we call him the family disposal ) He always finishes anything the other kids don't. And then if he doesn't then it goes to the dogs. -- Re: Re: SARG KATE CHALLENGE! > could eat half of a mickeyD's cheeseburger and throw the other half> away because she had had enough. Boy would I love to do that!!!I was always brought up with the belief that it's sinful to throw away foodas a child of the 1950's. We always had to clean our plates because of thestarving children in China and had to Trick or Treat for UNICEF, as well asbring in canned goods a few times a year for the Peace Corp or some othergroup feeding the starving children in Bangladesh. Our fathers worked very hard for their money and barely had enough to feedthe family. Wasted food was punishable by a beating with the belt in mostfamilies. To just throw it away because I didn't want to eat it any morewas, and still is, unthinkable, especially with finances being as tight forus, if not more so, than it was for my family when I was a kid. Nothing getstossed out unless it's inedible. This is why I usually wind up eating the kid's leftovers, because reheatedMcD burgers & fries taste awful. All leftovers from dinner go in containersin the refrigerator for either night time snacks, or another whole meal overthe weekend.Waste not, want not. Guest guest
Yesterday I had a disagreement with my MIL about this very subject. It seems didn't want to finish his breakfast and she thought that was awful, as her kids HAD to finish everything. (She had 9, none of which ever had a weight problem.) I told her I feel that kids have the ability to stop eating when they are hungry, and somehow we lose that ability as we get older. So he's full, so what? He'll eat when he's hungry. Growing up, I never had to clean my plate, but I at least had to TRY everything. I'm trying to follow my mom's example on this one. Of course, my mil thinks that's terrible. Guest guest
Okay Sue in NJ this is another way our parents raised us similarly ( & I am thinking about getting my certificate in English!!! LOL) We always had to clean our plates because of the starving children in China and had to Trick or Treat for UNICEF, as well as Our fathers worked very hard for their money and barely had enough to feed the family. Wasted food was punishable ... Nothing gets tossed out unless it's inedible. Well about warming up McD's... if it is that bad reheated... what good can it be originally? My latest trick ( & I don't usually go to Mc's but it is the only fast food around) I buy what the kids think they will eat & I get something small or nothing at all because I know I will finish their food. Guest guest
I think this subject is terribly hard for all of us who have a weight problem.. We don't want to pass it on to our children & we do want to teach them healthy eating habits. How do we do this when ours (mine) are not right?
