Guest guest
First, you want a " dehumidifier " not a " humidifier " . They do opposite things. Using a " humidifier " would be exactly the wrong thing to do. It would increase the humidity and the mites would live longer. About the idea of leaving the apartment and just let the dehumidifier run for two months. If the apartment is well sealed (windows are not open, no major leaks) and the dehumidifier works well (getting the humidity low) I think it will work and kill all the mites. That's basically what I did. Unfortunately, I can't say for sure that this is what worked for me because it was not a controlled experiment. The mites might have died anyway for some reason. But according to the graphs in the papers I referenced before, lowing the humidity reduces their life span down to about 5 weeks. So it should work. -Jeff On Mon, Aug 4, 2008 at 11:03 AM, fannouj <fannouj@...> wrote: > Hi, > I know that i often ask silly question and kind " innocent " ones, but i'd > like to know: > > If we leave the appartment " without mites " for two months, with the > humidifier working, do u think they can die??? > > As long as they say their longevity is 7 weeks, than maby...?? > > I found others of these suckers, and i put plastics on my bed, oil on > the bottom and they still climb, i am just desapointed... > > the one i found yesterday beside my tv was ust so small!!! > > A 0.5 mm white one, so for sure i don't see them on my > walls/ceilings/skin... > > Hope evryone is ok, let me know your opinion and also, what u think of > the garden fungicide/miticide inside the house a little bit. > > Thanks again! > x > > F. > >

Guest guest
Oh no, for two years I didn't know what to do. I hired exterminators, used borax, Kleen stuff, Ammonia, all kinds of essential oils mixed in things, you name it. Then I found this site and I tried the windex and then the bleach and epsom salts and this is what did it. It only took about a month. lou> Hi,> I know that i often ask silly question and kind "innocent"ones, but i'd> like to know:>> If we leave the appartment "without mites" for two months, with the> humidifier working, do u think they can die???>> As long as they say their longevity is 7 weeks, than maby...??>> I found others of these suckers, and i put plastics on my bed, oil on> the bottom and they still climb, i am just desapointed. ..>> the one i found yesterday beside my tv was ust so small!!!>> A 0.5 mm white one, so for sure i don't see them on my> walls/ceilings/ skin...>> Hope evryone is ok, let me know your opinion and also, what u think of> the garden fungicide/miticide inside the house a little bit.>> Thanks again!> x>> F.>>

Guest guest
If I can remember, I used a windex spray bottle, put in about 2/3 cup salt, filled with hot water two thirds full and added clorox.(Not Rita's exact recipe).> Hi,> I know that i often ask silly question and kind "innocent"ones, but i'd> like to know:>> If we leave the appartment "without mites" for two months, with the> humidifier working, do u think they can die???>> As long as they say their longevity is 7 weeks, than maby...??>> I found others of these suckers, and i put plastics on my bed, oil on> the bottom and they still climb, i am just desapointed. ..>> the one i found yesterday beside my tv was ust so small!!!>> A 0.5 mm white one, so for sure i don't see them on my> walls/ceilings/ skin...>> Hope evryone is ok, let me know your opinion and also, what u think of> the garden fungicide/miticide inside the house a little bit.>> Thanks again!> x>> F.>>

Guest guest
I know, I'm silly like that with the little bottle. I had to keep making more. Guest guest
Hi Fannou, Do not despair. The 9 month figure is when the conditions are optimum (humidity is 80% and/or temp near 5 degrees Celsius = 41 Fahrenheit). If the humidity is low (30% RH) and the temperature is moderately warm (25 degrees Celsius = 76 Fahrenheit) they only last 6 weeks . See text on the second paragraph on the right of the forth page of this paper (page 71 in the Journal): http://www.nhm.ac.uk/hosted_sites/acarology/saas/e-library/pdf000200/a000115.pdf So, if you can get the humidity low, you should be able to kill them off in 6 weeks or so without using chemicals. It seemed to work for me. Keep up your hope. -Jeff On Tue, Aug 5, 2008 at 1:27 PM, Fannou n <fannouj@...> wrote: > Hi, > I just spoke to a USA exterminator who told me thse fucking birdmites can > live 9 months without a bloodmeal!9 months!!! > He knows everything about it and told just chemicals twice a week for two > months can kill them. Guest guest
Yes I sprayed everything. I did it daily for a couple of weeks, then every other day until i didn't feel any biting. I even sprayed my couch. It did make my couch look like it was tie dyed but I didn't care. I can't afford any more furniture and I just wanted them gone. lou> Hi,> I know that i often ask silly question and kind "innocent"ones, but i'd> like to know:>> If we leave the appartment "without mites" for two months, with the> humidifier working, do u think they can die???>> As long as they say their longevity is 7 weeks, than maby...??>> I found others of these suckers, and i put plastics on my bed, oil on> the bottom and they still climb, i am just desapointed. ..>> the one i found yesterday beside my tv was ust so small!!!>> A 0.5 mm white one, so for sure i don't see them on my> walls/ceilings/ skin...>> Hope evryone is ok, let me know your opinion and also, what u think of> the garden fungicide/miticide inside the house a little bit.>> Thanks again!> x>> F.>>
Guest guest
How in the world did you spray everything (walls, carpet, ceilings, furnature, car, ect.) for two weeks straight??? How big is your place? I wonder if the recipe clorox and salt works because the clorox kills the adult mites and the salt kills the just hatched eggs? What do just hatched mites eat? From what I understand, they only need blood from us to feed the eggs. But the younger stages of their life they have to eat something. If you knew that maybe we could poison the food supply. > > Hi, > > I know that i often ask silly question and kind " innocent " ones, but i'd > > like to know: > > > > If we leave the appartment " without mites " for two months, with the > > humidifier working, do u think they can die??? > > > > As long as they say their longevity is 7 weeks, than maby...?? > > > > I found others of these suckers, and i put plastics on my bed, oil on > > the bottom and they still climb, i am just desapointed. .. > > > > the one i found yesterday beside my tv was ust so small!!! > > > > A 0.5 mm white one, so for sure i don't see them on my > > walls/ceilings/ skin... > > > > Hope evryone is ok, let me know your opinion and also, what u think of > > the garden fungicide/miticide inside the house a little bit. > > > > Thanks again! > > x > > > > F. > > > > >
