Hi everyone,

Wow, whoever recommended the book " The Virus Within " by Regush,

Thanks! I can hardly put it down. I can't believe that the general public is

told that AIDS is caused by HIV, when there is so much evidence that it

probably isn't, or its only a co-factor. We all need to be tested for HHV-6.

Its from the herpes family (6th herpes viruses identified) and it could be

deadly. There are two strains, one isn't has lethal as the other. I'm only

half way through the book, but there is so much information in it, and easy

reading that I'm going to be finished maybe tonight. I highly recommend it

to everyone! It was a little expensive, but well worth it. I found a great

site that gives you rebates and discounts if you order through them or their

affiliates, its great. So I got the book for about $20 but earned rebates,

after it reaches $15 they send you the check. It really is amazing. For any

of you that are interested this is the site: (sorry if I already told you

about this, you know the memory?)

Last night, Dr. Goldberg recommended the book " The Virus Within : The Coming

Epidemic " by Regush. I read a bit about it on amazon.com, but I am

wondering if anyone on this list has read it and what your thoughts are on

it. I would love feedback because I am trying not to spend money where I

cannot afford to. Thanks, folks. Becky

I'm reading The Virus Within right now and it's scary! It just astounds me that

this information isn't household news. According to the book, the CDC and other

medical bureaucracies were more interested in pursuing diseases caused by

lifestyle choices. The medical community believed that diseases born out of

viruses, bacteria, etc., were, for the most part, under control.

These are the same people who may have total control of our health care choices

in a few years. I'm not sure which is scarier--HHV6 or government run health

care.

I know. I shutter and I fight the fear that comes

Our current system is pretty bad. I don't 'get' that any proposed systems

will be government run (any more than they already are), only that they will

be an improvement over what we have now.

There are very few doctors I even trust anymore, and even with medical

insurance, we pay a FORTUNE for sub-standard care. I feel like many doctors

have NO answers for what ails my family and I, and many of their treatments

actually cause more illness. I DREAD getting sick because I never know who

to go to (my GP always seems to send me to some specialist or another, or

for more testing, often with a " well, we just don't know for sure " as the

answer). Many 'experts' have waiting lists 6 or more months long, and they

refuse to even take insurance (because, frankly, it's too much hassle, too

expensive for them, and they don't have to). Our current system literally

makes me sick just thinking about it!

We are an Air Force family as well, but I have to say we generally refer to

the military medical facilities as the " Medical Hobby Shop " ....lol. Through

the 20 + years my husband has been active duty I have definitely seen a

downsizing on military medicine. More care is off base now than I ever

remember.

I really prefer the off base care. It appears to me like the military docs

are just so overworked (and underpaid) that it makes it difficult for any

type of personal care. If this is what socialized medicine is like, it is NOT

a good thing.

You have to keep in mind that putting the government in charge of all health

care will only make things worse. If you need an MRI in Canada, the wait is six

months or more. You have a tumor--expect to wait months and months to have it

removed. I agree our system isn't the best, but why do you think people from

Canada and other countries come here for medical care?

If my doctor orders an MRI, I usually can get it done in a couple of days. The

new health care " database " passed in the stimulus package will have the some

bureaucrat in D.C. dictating in real time to your doctor who, when, where, and

maybe even if, your doctor can treat you. What do you think will happen to all

our kids with HHV6? We still have docs telling us it's a " harmless " virus.

One other point . . . My father was in the Air Force and I grew up with

government-controlled health care. The federal government pioneered the concept

of managed care. Military hospitals were the first HMOs.

Cost, new procedures and treratments not available/approved here, and

alternative medicine (non-western).  Just some possibilities.

I have a feeling if treatments are available here in the US, they are usually

done here, unless it is a cost issue.

I worked at the Mayo Clininc in MN, and there were swarms of people that went

there for conventinal western medicine that could afford it from many countries.

Doris,

Are you talking about ³Osler's Web: Inside the Labyrinth of the Chronic

Fatigue Syndrome Epidemic² by Hillary ?

I know it¹s not by the same author as The Virus Within ( Regush) but

it is the other book Dr. G. recommended to me years ago.

I'm not sure about people going to India for medical care, but I do know some

have gone to Mexico for cheap plastic surgery, which was botched. The only other

medical service I know of across the border is cheap pharmaceuticals.

Here is an article on India:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A49743-2004Oct20.html

We live in San Diego, which is very close to Mexico and I know several

people who routinely go there for medical & dental care and prescriptions

because the costs are so much lower than here. They feel the care is as good

as it is here. This is for routine care and basic medical, but that is what

my family is paying $1000s a year for, even with (supposedly) top-notch

insurance. I, for one, got my fertility drugs from a pharmacy in Tijuana -

at the suggestion of my fertility doctor - for 1/4 the cost they would have

been here.

It's my understanding that the Immunovir that some of the families on this

list are using can only be obtained from outside the US. It's expensive, but

I feel like if it were available from here the cost would probably be

prohibitive for most of us.

I'm not saying that our health care system is worst or better than others,

but it is definitely flawed in a huge way and it's only getting worse. I am

dealing right now with yet another across the board rate increase on our

insurance. Last year we had to get new policies because the family rate was

jumping from $400/month to almost $1000/month (just the premiums, not the

copays and other out-of-pocket expenses). Our 'new' policies are now headed

for the same type of rate increase ;-(

One of the reasons that medical and dental care is so expensive in this country

is the cost of malpractice insurance. I agree that the cost of medical care is

out of control in this country. We've seen our premiums go up and our copays

along with it. I'm just concerned that our access to protocols such as Dr. G's

would be limited or eliminated entirely if the government creates a medical

" advisory " board to direct patient care.
