Guest guest
Question... When you mix 32 oz. = 2 lbs. of Epsom Salts with 2 cups of bleach in 2 gallons of water, is this an acidic or alkaline mix? I know that the ph of chlorine bleach is somewhere around 11 which is extremely alkaline. Right? Epsom salts hardens the water but does not raise the alkalinity due to the sulphur in it. But the sulphur should in effect lower the ph... right? If so... how much according to the mix above? What would the end result be in numbers? (Yeah... bet you can tell it's been a loooooooong time since I've attended school! Wasn't interested in Chemistry until now! LOL ! ) The reason I ask is because the water immediately turns a bright pink when the bleach is poured into the mix after the salts have dissolved. This tells me that there is a definate ph thingy going on possibly? Thanks for any chemistry input.
