Guest guest
My husband and I caught some type of mite from our bird feeders 2 years ago. Our life has torn apart by this little demon from hell. Like everyone we went through all the creams, lotions and doctors and found out that we were on our own. We found the Birdmites.org site and we began the long road to getting these mites under some what of control. What we learned early is that Clorox kills these things. We threw out all our furniture and tore out our carpet. We saw about an 80% improvement after the carpet left the house. We threw out all our cloths and we buy cheap new ones and rotate them monthly. Everything is washed in 2 cups of Clorox. I have found out that if I put the soap and Clorox in first then fill up the washing machine with water then add the blue jeans they wash without spotting or bleaching stains. Our beds are covered in the heavy plastic that painters use to spread on floors when they paint, this is found at Walmart. After vacuuming the floors and walls each day I spray our plastic covered beds down each day with a 32 ounce bottle of water that has about 1 inch of clorox in it. We shower each night with Dawn dishwashing liquid followed by straight clorox poured on with a squirt bottle from head to toe. We wait for the burn and then immediatly shower the clorox off. We step out of the shower and blow dry off with a hair drier, we never use towels any more. After we are dry we apply the 10% or 7% horse permenthrin bought at the local farm supply store on the areas where we have redness or rashes and then cover the permenthrin with a heavy coat of vaseline along with the rest of our body. We go to bed on satin sheets that have been washed in the 2 cups of clorox. Nothing touches our skin that has not been washed in the 2 cups of clorox. During the day we cover the rashes and red areas with the Arrid dry deodorant spray and clearasil tinted acne cream. This keeps the skin dry during the day and wet and moist at night. It seems that changing the wetness and dryness of the skin throws the mites for a loop. We have found that by using a small 18 inch florescent black light bought at Walmart we can see and therefore remove tiny white specks from our eye lashes and brows and the itching stops. Being able to see the white specks helps in removing them. We keep a thin coat of vaseline on our eyes at all times. Our car, which had cloth seats was full of them and after using everything we could think of to kill the things we ended up having to buy a new car which has leather seats. Our skin is clear now. We have out breaks every once in awhile but we have it more under control right now than ever before. I do not carry a purse any more after discovering that my purse was loaded with the mites and each time I picked it up they would get all on my arms and legs. How much longer we have to live like this is anyone's guess. It is a living nightmare. I hope this information will help those you who have just now come in contact with these terrible mites. God bless each of you and don't give up fighting. This is spreading and hopefully one day a cure will be found. Rita
