Guest guest
Dear Fritolay- I just finished reading your story again. It is heartbreaking. About your pets, I don't know if they are dogs, but in case they are, have you tried mitaban(amitraz)? I was able to convince the Vet to prescribe it for my dog last weekend. After my family left the house, I guess he became the prefered host as I spend most of the day out. He was loosing considerable hair and started looking very depressed. After applying a sebhoreic shampoo and mitaban the day after he started looking way much better. I also put him on Revolution to satisfy the vet's whish. It's been only two days since the mitaban so it's too early to provide any definitive answer but just wanted to see if that would be a possibility for your pets. Also, any luck with the samples? I will pray esp. for you and your family tonight. God Bless you- MM > FL My symptoms sound like typhus as well. My joints are achy and my > leg muscles have charly horse symptoms. Guest guest
MM- I can't thank you enough for your prayers. Ummmm... I have cats. I had a bird in which died of this. I don't know if it started with him. Had him 7 years....loved that grouchy bird, in the end I kept him on my chest and carted him around, he slept there with a towel or my hands around him. Eishhh...I have been treating my cats since June with weekly treatments of Iver. Nips off the equine tube encased in a tasty treat. I ordered Rev. but it hasn't arrived as of yet. I wondered whom mentioned the Mitaban. Is that for use on cats, or does it contain perm? Perm and prynthiods are deathly to felines. My pets......the cats were diagnosed with ear mites and cheyletillia, and the bird was diagnosed with scaly leg mites. It was those diagnoses that led me on the mite track. I am not sure what mite we have or if there is just one kind. Well then, my SAMPLES........TFCF. You should of seen my get up. I did it before my son woke up so I wouldn't have him hot on my heels trying to see what was up and possibly exposing him to that mess. I scoped these samples on my own and I am coming up with the same thing on our bodies, but they appear to be dried up. I couldn't really find anything viable. So I went hunting on my body, found a couple of sites and did official scrapings. I am starting to notice that my samples are not yielding adults quite as often as a few months ago. I did get them, they are always on the borders. Retreived eggs and smaller forms as well. I did get one sample that gave a great side view of the thing but I can't find any pictures to compare with. That's where the site I posted earlier came from. The head is what I cannot make out. Legs dangling down. Longer than what I had supposed them to be. I am not sure it is the same thing as the others. I am hoping an electron scanning microscope will answer all my questions. Atleast if I can get an identification, I can come up with effective fighting agents and get some help from my pesticide guy. Really quite dissappointed in the basement thing. I have tape samples, slides, samples in formeldehyde, samples in alcohol, and samples in a plain plastic bag. I labeled all to location and date. I took samples of the I beam, rafters, table underneath, carpet underneath, and the stairway. I gotta go to bed........ manymites <manymts@...> wrote: Dear Fritolay- I just finished reading your story again. Has your mite been identified or do you havesuspicions of bird mites? I don't hear very many success stories ongetting rid of these things, but I can say it is a long ardourousstruggle to get control of which seems to be short lived. Hence thefrustration of the many whom are dealing with the medical community, andthe CDC. I suspect I have been infected/infested for over 5 years. I was also seeing a group ofderm's also known for being some of the best in the region. I endured agazillion blood tests but none interesting enough for parasites. I alsoreceived ultrasounds, MRI, hormone testing, etc. In the end, I wasoffered antidepressants and only after they stated to me that theydidn't know what to do to help me. That they could not cure me. Theynever once took a scraping. I refuse. I am appalled. My family isaffected, I had one pet die, and have two others still being affectedand have endured many failed treatments of Iver. They have been removedfrom the home since June.>> The problems we are running into getting rid of them are numerous. Itis incredibly hard to fight something that which you cannot recognizewith your naked eye. You may see it, but you can't really tell if itsdust, dirt, pepper, coffee grounds, some look white, some look black, some are clear, eggs are an entirely different matter and some speciesare capable of surviving without a meal for 9 months while stillretaining the capability to parasitize a host. Factor in the fact thatthe host preference seems to have changed to any host is acceptable andthen their resistence to the pesticides of which has been publicy deniedor not told very loudly. Just recently has the CDC changed therecommendations for first line treatments of lice and scabies. 9 monthsago those recommendations were not there. They have been usingIvermectin in equines, swine, cattle, sheep, dogs, and cats for almosttwo decades. In the past few years it is just being documented about> resistence of those mites to Iver. The first line treatment now beingonly implemented in the human race, in mites which are displayingzoonosis or lack of host preference. You must get rid of the source inorder to get rid of the mite, but just what is the source? You can't getrid of all the birds around your home, mice, rats, racoons, possums, chipmunks, squirrels, etc, etc. There are even parasitic mitesassociated with oak trees that feed off humans, then there is the strawitch mite and etc. There are some in which have removed nests, etc andstill suffer. If they are truly host specific, they would eventually dieout. Agriculture pesticides have endured huge failures in whichpermithrin and pyrenthians are pretty much ineffective. Malithion andmany of the big guns of the past have been outlawed for use due totoxicity issues. In recent years, introduction of parasitic mites andinsects to kill the target insects in crops are currently beingutilized.> Cotton is being bred to be resistent to the boweevils and in my ownexperience seems to attract these damn things. Now they are coming upwith nano-particle technology for pesticide, food production, pharmacueticals, medical ie. cancer therapies and tracing, and itsalready in use in many topical applications of the body ie. wrinkletherapy, etc.. Nano-technology is slated for use even when these thingsdon't resemble the original particle from whence they came because theirsurface size has been so far reduced that it no longer resembles itsparent. This changes the action of the particle itself. Nobody knowswhat the long term effects of doing this might be on our bodies muchless the animals, plants, soil, and insects. There are many good peopleon here whom have tried various methods with or without success. I havetried a few things, but have been thus far unsuccessful in stopping theonslaught altogether.> There are many good suggestions within this forum but I don't feellike I am in any position to recommend this over that. The frustration Iseem to be experiencing is the toxicity issues surrounding a lotproducts. I am trying to stay away from the worst, but am on the vergeof trying a few.> I know this is more info than you may have wanted, but there are hugeproblems surrounding parasites, human, pets, animals, plants, andperhaps maybe you outta know what your up against.>> golfingnut1957 golfingnut1957@... wrote:> FL My symptoms sound like typhus as well. Guest guest
FL- It's great you got the samples. I also collected some weird insects that don't look like bird mites at all and haven't found a match either. Mine are long and hairy with about 6 leggs. I'll post a picture tonight for comparison. Regarding the mitaban, it contains amitraz but it is formulated for dogs only. I don't know if there is an equivalent for cats though. Thanks for the info on antihistamines! Guest guest
Hi MM, I spent the New Years driving to Phoenix and heat treating my parents house. I just hope it gives them some relief since they are not infested yet. We were able to get their house up to 210. Is the Mitaban for your dog a spray? I have been giving my dog Decomectin injections, doxyccycline and MSM. I also have her boarded right now and will be bringing her home this weekend. She is much better, but this is the 2nd time I have boarded her and she got better last time until I brought her back home. I have also been spraying pesticides on the floors after I heat treat and it really seems to help. Happy New Year to all. Here's to not having mites in 2008! Guest guest
Hi - the mitaban is a topical solution that contains amitraz. It comes in 10ml container to be mixed with 2 gal of water. It is normally prescribed for demodex mites, although according to the literature it is not known its method of action for controlling the mites. I noticed it contains amitraz and convinced the vet to prescribe it for my dog. I was really concerned about him since he was scratching continuosly, loosing a lot of hair, skin and was loosing apetite. She also gave him a sebhoreic? shampoo (Oxy Dex) which contains 2.5% benzoic peroxide and put him on Revolution which contains selamectin (a derivative of Iver). I bathed him with Peroxide shampoo Friday, put the mitaban on saturday then Revolution on sunday. He barely scracthes anymore and feels a lot better. He's playing and eating a lot. I don't know if mitaban only was the solution or a combination of the meds. I hope it helps- MM > > > > FL My symptoms sound like typhus as well.
