Guest guest
Congrats! I hope you have a mite-free week. It sounds like this heat thing is very effective considering they can't build up a resistance to being burned up. Thank you for the detailed, informative post. Happy holidays= som > > > > > > > > How did it work for you? > > > > > > > > > >
Guest guest
MM, So glad to hear it went well for you. I did post that I heat treated a 3rd time. Unlike you, I only used a propane heater so I can go in during the treatment and dont have to ventilate after. I also have 2 tanks so I can switch out when they freeze up. I have been trying to get everyone to try this. With propane it is very safe and so much relief. No matter what type of mite, they will die. The last time was great. Got the condo to 160 and the corners and floors all got over 120, including behind the toilet and in the walls. Complete kill. Started at 11:30 ended at 5:00. I didnt tape over the electrical outlets, but I have removed all the face plates. I caulked all around the edges of my pergo floors and around the toilet. I shut off the water to the toilet and emptied it. I will be heat treating weekly until my dog is cured. My dog is getting much better as well. Her 2nd injection of Dex this Tues and she is taking doxycycline too. I cant take doxycycline myself, I'm allergic. I also clean her ears everyday and put mite drops in them and spray her all over with Permectrin. I take injectible invermectin by mouth everyday because I still have crawling sensations and nematodes under my skin. I am also on a sugar free diet and take paraclear, salt/Vit. C and GSE. Found a guy who had really bad lymes disease who is getting better with the aid of Kangen water (ionized water). This helps to produce an alkaline environment in the body, which parasites do not like. He is giving me as much of the water as I need although I have to drive all the way to LA to get it. I have been drinking it for about 1 week now and although the parasite in my skin is still alive and thriving, I have a lot more energy. I think it probably will take some time to become effective. Also rubbing GSE on my skin...they dont like it. I mix with lotion since straight will burn the skin. I tried it and believe me it does. Getting better by the Grace of God. Guest guest
Cyndi- did he buy the machine and then " makes " the water for you and gives it to you? Can you buy the water already made? Is the machine (I guess it's a deionizer) expensive? At your convenience and thank you for all your awesome posts. som > > > > > > > > > > How did it work for you? > > > > > > > > > > > > > > >
Guest guest
GSE - grapefruit seed extract. Guest guest
Hi Many Mites: Were all the heaters placed outside the house or were any of them inside the house? And how far away from the house did you place them. How long was the longest aluminum tubing? Was just wondering, as I am still waiting to buy the duct work. Was your duct work the kind you use to hook up to a dryer? I am a little worried of a fire starting when I do this. Thanks.manymites <jsrd@...> wrote: This was our third weekend heat treating- better experience this time. I had one kerosene heater- 165k btu and 2 propane (125k btu and 100k btu) with three 20lb tanks so I had one spare to change when the others froze. I installed the three heaters simultaneously at different places around the house. I couldn't find a big propane heater for rent so I had to buy two small propane heaters at Lowes to complement the rental one. This third time around I was able to implement a couple of tweaks: I took the AC filters off and overrode the AC thermostast (***Big thanks Ray for the tip***) to run the fan continously and help spread the heat through the house. A simple web search help obtained the wiring instructions for my thermostat. Used the flexible aluminum duct with no major problems. It broke in a couple of places but was able to patch with foil tape and continue to use. Taped all electrical outlets. Used a respirator to go inside the house while heating. Used three wireless thermometers, ($8/ea at ACE Hardware) The outside temp was around 65F which helped a lot compared to last time. Started heating around 12:30pm and finished by 7pm. Left area closed until 8pm before ventilating the house. All areas received about 130F or more for at least 1 hour. Some areas got around 150F but everything was fine. Today the house feels very empty (clear or mites). Much success. We complemented the heat with taking Iver for everyone in the house including our little dog. We took the oral Iver that you can get at the Garden Supply store. Cyndi- Have you heat treated again? Could you please update us on your results? Guest guest
Cyndi- Sorry I missed your post about your #3 treatment. Thanks for reposting the information.. I really appreciate the details you provide as it helps me identify my weak spots. Emptying the toilets is a great idea. Do you cover the sink and bathtub drains? Heat treating is a LOT of work for me. I see immediate relief for a couple of days but then I don't know if it's my dog or that the mites find themselves their way back into the house and we get reinfested again. We treated Saturday and today is only Tuesday and I have plenty of mites again. I hope I'm not making them resistant to heat as well as they seem to build up resistance to everything else I've tried. I'm sorry if I sound a little blue but today I let my wife and kids go abroad with her family for a couple of weeks to get some relief from this torment. I don't know what hurts more if seeing them get bitten or the feeling of emptyness from not being with them or the frustration of not being able to get rid of this stupid pest. I feel so impotent at times I can't even explain. Anyway, I am very glad that heat is working for you and I thank God for giving me a technique to try at them. At least I know heat kills them so I'll keep looking for voids in my house to prevent them from escaping when I apply the heat. How long did you maintain 160F in your place? I got my house to at least 130 for at least an hour but I'm not sure if that did it for them. Thanks- MM > > > > > > > > > > How did it work for you? > > > > > > > > > > > > > > >
Guest guest
Hi Melinda- sorry I didn't reply earlier. I had the heaters just outside the bedroom windows. This time I used 6 " x8' flexible aluminum ducts and they were ok (used a 8 " x6 " reducer attached to the heater). That aluminum tubing is a pain in the neck to work with.. the flexible aluminum duct is the dryer type..Unless you have wood windows, you shouldn't have to worry about fire. I had the aluminum duct inserted through the middle of a bedroom window. My window frame is metal so there is nothing to burn. I used 1/4 " cement board to close off the opening. (about $6 for a 3'x5' sheet at Lowes at the floor tile section) I think you mentioned before that you have a 3b/1ba house so it's probably a lot like mine. Make sure you have a way of spreading the heat throughout your place effectively..I could not find any good fans at this time of the year at Lowes or Walmart but hopefully you will have some good heavy duty fans and your AC system is sized properly to do the job of spreading the heat fast enough.. Did you find someone to help you do the setup or are you planning on doing it yourself? Guest guest
Amen, Ray, you mentioned you've never seen the ones that attack your family. In addition to seeing the black specks, have you ever noticed any white dust on your body or hair? Also, what kind of Listerine do you use? the one with Ammonia D or the one with Lactic acid? I tried Lysol with lactic acid and it seems to have a good effect. I don't know if it's just a new product that they haven't build up their tolerance yet or not. Guest guest
MM- Hang in there buddy. I know exactly how you feel. When my kids went to my parents for 3 months while I fought this thing I was miserable. 1. I was tired as hell with all the daily cleaning rituals and bathing then on top of that trying to kill the little pieces of crap, maintain a decent work level, ect. 2. Being the father and husband (protector of the home) so I was supposed to be able to defend my family from whatever but you can't and you feel helpless. You just have to realize you are doing all you can and more. I'm sure you are exhausted at work like I was. 3. Nobody in your life understands or can relate. It helped talking to Melinda on the phone she didn't laugh because she was going through the same stuff as me and has for a lot longer. She had already helped me with info on what to do and what NOT to do. 4. All your free time and money are gone. One night I met my Mom and Son (who was living with my mom at the time) at the grade school for a cub scout meeting and my son raced his boat that night and he won every race exept the final race for the whole pack champ. So, he went home with 2 trophies one for his den and another for the pack and it should have been a great night. Except that I couldn't hug or high five my son like the other fathers were doing. I couldn't even get near him celebrating wins or giving encoragment after a loss. I was pretty much standing away from everyone in the corner not letting anyone near me. I should have been happy that he did so good but I was so hurt that I couldn't get near him or celebrate with him after his 14 wins (but who was counting-lol) Even though I was there that night those bugs stole that father/son time away from me and it hurt. I cried going home alone. My hurt turned to anger and that is what made me go home and f- those bugs up. There is nothing you can do that will take your hurt away. So don't use your hurt the wrong way. Turn it into the driving force that makes you cook that new batch of hatchlings and send them back where they came from. If you are going days without bites you are hurting the bugs. Don't stop, keep messing them up. Your getting them against the ropes just don't stop, keep beating these things until you knock them out and then kick them when their down. Soon you'll have to change your name to nomites. Hang in there brother. > > > > > > > > > > > > How did it work for you? > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > >

Guest guest
MM- I did see white specks on my body hair and I kept thinking it was because I putting lotions and water with soaps on my skin but on the days when I didn't put anything on my skin I would see all the white " dust " in my body hair. I also had dandruff for the 1st time in my life. I asked the doctor if it was walking dandruff but he said we would definatly see that move and mine wasn't moving. I think it was just that they burrowed into my scalp. I use original Listerine. I think the colored ones have sugar or something else in them. Also the safeway grocery store brand isn't as effective even though the ingredence are exactly the same. It has been 3 weeks since my last bite and I still use it. I also use the original Windex with Ammonia-D in it. I tried some of the other when they are on sale or something and they didn't seem as effective. Do you get " cuts " on your skin like a straight line? I would feel pin prick bites, fiberglass on the skin type burning and deep stings that left deep bruises as well as crawling. > > > > > > > > > > > > How did it work for you? > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > >

Guest guest
I forgot to tell one important thing our dermatologist advised. He said to be sure and spray our yard and outside our home with a good insecticide such as spectracide or seven 10%. For those of you who have animals, they are probably being continually exposed while outside the house. Good luck. So far today no activity in our home. My husband just took his stromectol pills and we will keep close watch to see what happens before time for next treatment. Guest guest
Ray- you are an incredible human being. Thanks for sharing that experience. I've had some similar experiences and like you say, nobody really understands so I just swallow my feelings and try to stand on one piece for my wife and kids. Trying to be upfront and honest has only complicated things. I've made the mistake of trying to explain our situation to our neighbors and others but that has only resulted in trouble for us. Some of our neighbors cross to the other side of the street while walking in front of our house. It seems like the moment you tell someone about your situation you become an alien that needs to be avoided. In reality, because of the anonymous nature of the group, this is the only place that I feel safe communicating with others about our situation. It really breaks me apart to see my daugther suffer this and that is my main motivation for keeping up the fight. The Eurax cream was able to help them with the body but then the mites started getting into my daughter eyes and ears and I just could not take it any longer. I put listerine into my eyes and clean them out that way but I couldn't do that to my little ones. I don't think anyone on earth deserves to live through this. One good thing I have learned is to appreciate more and more how valuable life is. Even seeing normal people doing the simplest things like grocery shopping makes me feel depressed. Seeing that other people are able to get these bugs under some control and continue their lives gives me a lot of hope. Regarding your other post, before heat treating I would get areas of my body feeling with a burned sensation, like feeling a million tiny pins on my ears for a couple of hours a day and a feeling of stiffness and dryness on that part of the body. After a couple of days, I would loose the skin on my ears. The last time it happened on my lips. They were feeling really stiff for a couple of days and then I lost the skin on my lips. I also feel the crawling and sometimes when it is heavily infested I feel them bouncing on my face, hands and head. I also feel the bites once in a while, mostly on my feet and head. Not bathing in the morning or night with Listerine or alcohol is suicidal for me as the mite activity nearly triples for me and I start noticing black and white specks (white dust) all over my body, including my hair, eyelids and eyebrows. I hope your kids are now back with you and you are able to spend more time with each other after getting these bugs under control.. Thanks so much for the inspiring words and the message of hope. I needed it. Guest guest
Hi Many Mites: Okay, so, let me get this straight... You used "dryer" duct work? and it was 6 inch round with a reducer from 8 inch to 6 inch. are you talking about the somewhat rigid aluminum kind, right? I was looking at ducting.com and was thinking of buying it from there, but their stuff is so expensive. Like $300 for 20 feet of it. Usually, the dryer duct work is 4 inches. Lowe's sold it in 6 inch? My main problem is my kitchen and my small bedroom, so I will try to do them at different times. I will mess around with it; that is, whenever I have money to buy the stuff. at least i have the heater and it is working really good. torpedo blast.... I am so sorry you are feeling down. I get depressed because my kitchen is so infested and I can never get it right. I cry alot, because I had to give up my lab mixed with dachshund dog,and my other dog, and my 2 cats. And now I can't have any pets, and I miss them so much.Melindamanymites <jsrd@...> wrote: Hi Melinda- sorry I didn't reply earlier. I had the heaters just outside the bedroom windows. Guest guest
Fritolay, If I don't bathe in the morning, by the end of the day my body is full of white specks, or milky looking tiny specks that would look almost like white dust but it isn't. I thuoght at first they were eggs but I tried hatching some and they didn't change over a couple of weeks. My theory is that they are some form of waste product generated by the mites. > > > > > > > > > > > > How did it work for you? > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > --------------------------------- > Looking for last minute shopping deals? Guest guest
Melinda- yes, I used the aluminum dryer flexible (somewhat rigid) duct. It cost about $16 at lowes for a 6 " x8' long (it comes compressed and you have to pull it out to get the 8'. The kitchen is a challenge, esp. if you have your cabinets full of stuff because the heat will have a hard time getting into the small spaces. I would put a temperature sensor in your deppest corner inside one of the cabinets to make sure you will get the temperature right at that location. In my case, when I was caulking around the base cabinets I found a Huge hole in the wall underneath the kitchen sink (about 4 " tall by 3 feet long). That hole was a direct access to the crawl space so even after all the heat in the world, the ones that rushed into the hole were safe from getting burned. I patched the hole with cement board and duct tape. Guest guest
Hi MM You should rub Aquaphor into and on and all over your daughter's eyes and in ears...it does not burn and it seems to be harmless to the eyes... it really helps me...i had them in my eyes really bad and this has helped alot. also--when she bathes--rub her eyelashes really well with a wash cloth...this seems to help.
