Guest guest
I have a litter of puppies that will start going to their new homes next week. A couple in their early 40's have contracted for a puppy. They have had an Airedale previously that had a variety of health problems and the wife put the dog on a fresh food diet and used homeopathy and I believe some other holistic treatments prior to the dog's death of auto-immune disease. Anyway an ideal home for a new puppy, fresh food and no vax. They called me to let me know that they needed to back out of getting the puppy because she is also trying to get pregnant. She lost two babies this last year and she said they were not miscarriages, they just died and they don't know the cause. I have a feeling this happened early in the pregnancy. The OB strongly advised not to add anything new to the household because of listeriosis or toxoplasmosis. And the OB gave her a whole list of items to stay away from. She does believe the doctor is being overly cautious because they just don't know why those two babies died. Being of the old school where the concern for germs and bad stuff was nil and everything just got washed with soap and water I have a real hard time comprehending all this fear from the doctor. But I also realize allopathic medicine is also fear based. All I could relay to her was I have one family who feeds their dog fresh foods, just had a healthy baby. I've a daughter in law who didn't even consider not handling meat to feed her family while she was pregnant. She didn't clean the catbox - but she never cleans the catbox - that's someone else's job. I have a daughter who didn't consider not handling meat when she was pregnant. I've suggested that when handling the meat she wear rubber gloves, wash the dog bowl, wipe the dog's muzzle with grapefruit seed extract, and then wash the rubber gloves before removing them. I also suggested she contact her homeopathic vet for his take on this. I realize that this is a decision that she and her husband must make but I don't want to give them bad information either. Her thoughts were that they were supposed to do the procedure the end of this month and if it doesn't work and then she wouldn't have a puppy either.
