I will tell you my oldest whom is now 11. When she was 2 she ran this horrid

fever had a seizure from it and all it was 105 when i pulled hte thermometer

out and called 911 during her seizure. They ran test after test and NOTHING her

white cells were elevated a bit we spent 4 days in the hospital and on the 3

day her eye teeth and part of one of her molors come it the fever broke. She

ran the fever again like a mo later and the rest of her molars come in. I dont

know if it ws the teeth alone but it sure contributed. I do believe some kids

react strongly to there teeth and it for some reason effects there immune

system. I did the same as a child 2 of my chj ildren ran high fevers with teeth

and 2 didnt. Drs will tell you know but I feel different. But again its best to

use your judgement

best of luck

Both of my older boys (baby has no teeth yet) ran 105 with eye teeth. Hopefully

that's what it is. Generally (really generally) speaking, fevers that high tend

to be viral. There's a ton of viral stuff going around right now. If tylenol

makes him more comfortable and you, use it! I do if I have to. I think as long

as you aren't going overboard, it's fine. I did talk to someoen recently who

knew someoen that gave their child tylenol as soon as their temp hit 99.

(forgive the spelling, i'm too lazy to correct it) I think that's crazy.

The chance for febrile seizures is the reason I continue to use tylenol &

motrin.

Hope he feels better soon.

All of my kids so far have had high fevers & /or diarrhea when cutting their

eye teeth. The vast majority of peds will tell you that teeth don't cause

fevers, but practically every mother I know knows better ;-)

When one of mine runs a fever, I usually give an herbal blend by Herbs For

Kids called " Temp Assure " which doesn't force the fever down but helps

support the body to work with the fever. If there is pain involved, I'll

give the Herbs For Kids " Feverfew " or homeopathic Arnica(depending on what

the pain is from).

My oldest got a fever, runny nose and an ear infection EVERY time she got a

tooth! Luckily my younger two didn't have that problem. :-)

Let's not forget the time-honored way to cool down the body -- less clothes,

cool washcloth, cool bath.

I remember having double mastitis after my daughter was born. I wouldn't let

anyone check the temp

of my fever. I felt *so* cold. I filled the tub with straight hot water and

laid in it for what seemed like

a long time. I could not stop shivering and every few minutes would add more

hot water because I

could not stay warm enough. It was like I was *driven* to hotter and hotter

water. Finally, I felt the

fever starting to break. When I got out of the water and thought I could

feel it had gone down quite

a bit, I checked it and it was 104. In a few hours the fever was gone and so

was my mastitis. I had

taken no medicine (some herbal stuff probably, I don't remember for sure.) I

credit my quick

recovery to the high fever. I'll never know how high it had been.

This isn't meant to be medical advice (to help a fever go higher), but just

an anecdotal account of

a high fever being beneficial.

I was thinking that as well, , but didn't have the resources to back it

up. My children never get tylenol or motrin anymore. Homeopathy works wonders

for a fever!!

Kay

i'd say giving tylenol could be very, very dangerous!

Thanks for all the stories about your kids' high fevers! Aidan's broke

this morning between 5 and 8am. It's completely gone. I don't see any

new teeth yet, but the last couple times fever was followed by teeth

there were a few days in between. He has yet to get his eye teeth and

second year molars. And who knows, maybe it was viral.

I read this to my husband and added, " Maybe pediatricians should have to

take a class from mothers! " To which he answered, " Maybe pediatricians

should have to BE mothers! "

Okay, never heard of this stuff, but I'll have to have some on hand for

next time. Is there a website? What would you have given in my

situation? He just woke suddenly, crying hard. When it's 5:30am and

Baby's screaming and all you have is Tylenol, well, I couldn't not give

him anything. I just couldn't. But at least I didn't give it every four

hours like I probably would have done a year ago, even though both sets

of grandparents thought I should have. A bath at that time would have

made things worse.

A good friend's 2yo had a febrile seizure just last Tuesday, making this

fever stuff a little more difficult. She stopped breathing, turned blue,

scared everyone. And her temp a couple minutes before the seizure was

only 102, so it must have spiked soon afterwards. They use Tylenol

frequently (her mom was going to get it just as the seizure started) --

does that make febrile seizures more likely? If so, is there an article

about this somewhere? I'd like to share the information with her. (And

my parents.)

No problem, and I tend to agree. But it's hard to explain that to a

20mo. Not only that, but he can't tell me what might help him feel

better. :-) If he hadn't been screaming when we discovered the 105.3

temp, I don't know what I would have done, but as it was, I had to do

something.

, thank you for the article about Tylenol being dangerous. I will

read it and probably print it to share with some others.
