Guest guest
i know, its so irritating. where is she at? and is she expensive? She is in Clawson and her price is $70 for the first consultation, because she takes a detailed history, and then $30 for any other consults. I think that is average, Sherri?? She didn't charge the $70 for Colin's first visit, he was only 18 months old and I am assuming that she didn't think that there was enough history to warrant the charge, but don't count on that. Guest guest
no but i do know someone that does that with her kids and it works. my question is, then what do you do when you don't nurse anymore? and do you just express it, use a dropper and put it in or what? Guest guest
-You seriously dont need much. Only 1-2 ml. I squeeze out whatever i can get into a bowl...every drop counts lol. Then i use a small syringe to suck up all the drops. I lie her down and pin her arm and put some in the offending ear....wait a minute or so. Sing/talk whatever just keep her in that position so that it drains onto her eardrum...repeat on the other side. My son has had 2 infections and my daughter 1....when i looked in their ear from one day to the other it was almost miraculous. All the red was gone from the eardrum etc.....i do that all the time now. ....but if you are susceptable to ear infections yourself it might not work....you may lack the antibodies etc to combate it in the child. Cant hurt to try though. ...throwing in her .02$ -- In Vaccinations , " " <hvl25@c...> wrote: > no but i do know someone that does that with her kids and it works. > my question is, then what do you do when you don't nurse anymore? and > do you just express it, use a dropper and put it in or what? Guest guest
im an audiologist. I bought it for school way back when. I think you can get cheap ones for not much. Look in the yellow pages for an audiologist or hearing aid dispenser and ask them if you can buy an otoscope thru them and how much. Ill spare everyone my eardrum 101 opinions. > > > > > > > > > > > > >thanks, > > > > > > > > > > > > > >someone else posted that too, and said it works, my only > > > problem > > > > > with > > > > > > >that is I am talking about my 14month old who is in no way > > > going > > > > > to > > > > > > >let me tape garlic to her ear for 6 hours and leave it > > > > > there....LOL > > > > > > >It is good to know for my older 2 though > > > > > > > > > > > > > > in Mi > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > >

Shopping has some cheap otoscopes and so does Walgreens. I recently purchased one from Walgreens for about $10. It wouldn't work (bad bulb), so had to return it. Too bad they didn't have a replacement because I wound up paying about $30 including postage and handling from Shopping for the exact same thing. -----Frances -- Check out my current E-Bay Auctions: RF Modulator (DVD VCR adaptor) http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem & category=32831 & item=3014808354 Electronic Child/Toddler Safety Leash Beeper http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem & category=20436 & item=2314188242
Guest guest
, I have an octoscope too. I went to a pharmacy store where they sell medical equipment too. But regular pharmacies and stores sell them too. Look at your child's ear when it is healthy so that when it isnt you can see what to look for. A healthy ear drum should look pearly white , kind of shiny white. There are some websites that show a healthy ear. I can usually tell when it is red inside that it needs some sort of treatment or preventative such as ear oil. I also use it as an indication of whether or not the doctors are telling me the truth that it is a really bad infection. There is one doctor in our pediatrician's group that always seems to think a little redness is a " bad " infection requiring antibiotics. It also can get swollen inside. Best thing to do is see it when it is healthy and then when it isn't then it is easier to see the difference. Barbara Re: recurrent ear infections I am guessing you have an otoscope? Guest guest
Here's my story about misdiagnosis of ear infection: My baby had been feverish and crying a lot and I knew she was teething. But when her fever went to 104, I took her to the doctor. That was 8 years ago - at that time I was a bit freaked out over fevers (I've learned a lot since then and am not worried about high fever anymore). Anyway, her doctor (holistic MD) was out of town, so they had another MD filling in for him. She took a quick look in my daughter's ear, saw that it was red, and immediately wrote out a script for antibiotics. I told her I thought the ear was red from teething and asked her why she thought there was a bacterial infection. She said " This is protocol. She has to have the antibiotic in case it's an infection. " I said no thanks and left. On the way home, I stopped at the health food store and picked up a bottle of Hyland's teething tablets. I gave her some at the store and by the time we were home, the fever was gone and she was happy and content. This was no ear infection. Doctors will say that teething cannot cause a high fever of 104, but this is absolutely not true. My feeling is that teething is regularly misdiagnosed as ear infection. My feeling is that teething is regularly misdiagnosed as ear infection. I hate that ... both of my kids ran fevers like this with teething ... both of my kids had 2 sets of tubes... I can't tell you how many antibiotics even after the tubes.... Live & Learn huh? I have a friend that had a pediatrician tell her babies don't have pain with teething too ... how's that one? I think he must not remember cutting any teeth ... I certainly remember cutting wisdom teeth adn it hurt like hell ! in IL
Guest guest
I'm considering saving mm from this baby for just that purpose! My doctor dh was simply astounded with the quick results he saw in my son after administering a few drops to his ear that he was seriously afraid were going to rupture so he insisted on getting him antibiotics (he doesn't insist often). By the time he got back from the office with the samples, the swelling and redness had almost disappeared and he was advising that to all bfing mothers. Most, if not all, thot that too disgusting and insisted on antibiotics! Laurie>Oh
Guest guest
Once had tubes placed, she no longer took oral antibiotics when she had an ear infection, the ENT prescribed drops. Initially we used Floxin (which was new and I had to fight the insurance when she first got it, but this ENT always wants the best stuff and it worked well!), and then at the end, he was on to something else newer (also not covered, LOL). They worked well. She had probably 4-5 sets of tubes from age 4 - 9, but she's been doing well without them for a couple years now. Does Adena have drainage from the tubes when she has ear infections? , mom to (13), (11 DS), and Sammy (13) thebombtexas wrote: > > I have lost count of how many ear infections Adena has had since about > 18 months but at least 25. Guest guest
First question does Adena swim, especially in chlorinated water? If the answer is yes, have a think back are ear infections more prelevant (sp?) during swimming times. We have found since keeping Trent away from chlorinated water he has very few ear infections - he can swim in salt water fortunately. Also does she have a bath rather than a shower? If a bath does she like to submerge her head in the water to get her hair wet, we have also found a connection with bath water and ear infections. Hope this may help a little Keep smiling Jan mother to Trent 24yo w/Ds from the LandDownUnder - note he is tired this morning and still sleeping 'cause he was up watching tele at 2.30 this morning and up again at 3.30 and 4.00 - males!!!!! From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of thebombtexas Sent: Thursday, 12 March 2009 3:22 AM Subject: Recurrent Ear Infections I have lost count of how many ear infections Adena has had since about 18 months but at least 25. She had her 2nd set of tubes placed on January 6th. She had an ear infection at the time the tubes were placed which they treated with antibiotics. In early February, she had a double ear infection along with high fever for 5 days, lethargy for 9 days, and not eating for 5 days. She went through 2 antibiotics. She now has another double ear infection and is starting her 4th antibiotic in 60 days. I am concerned with the amount of antibiotics. I know she needs them to heal the ear infections. I was just talking to a parent who has a child with Syndrome that is about 14. he said his ENT had placed a gold tube (which insurance no longer allows) and a titanium with an antibiotic on his last set of tubes and he has not had any problems since. This child went through 7 sets of tubes in 7 years. I wanted to see if anyone here has experienced anything that has helped put a stop to the recurrent ear infections since the tubes obviously are not doing what they should be doing. Our pediatrican just says we have to wait until she grows bigger and her head and ears are bigger. Guest guest
had quite a few as a baby but we were living with my parents at the time and they are both smokers. hasn't had anymore ear infections but we get chronic fluid build up so we are going in for our 6th set of tubes in a couple weeks.
