I just find it remarkable that two of you have been sick for 28 years

and you both know it. For that matter, I wonder how anyone is able

to discern this down to such specifics. I think I've been ill for

quite a long time, but it wasn't till I had all the slats knocked out

from under me that my health really caved too. That time,

that " caving " time, is only around 2000, but I had numerous problems

before then, for a decade or two at least.

I still don't know how to pin things down and sort things out. And

I'm grateful for anyone and everyone on this list who pipes up and

spits it out, so that I can glean any kind of information at all. I

think I'm going to be at this for a very long time (especially

punting on my own, sans health care, sans doctor most of the time,

and so on).

Hmm... how do I know when I got sick? that was easy. It was a total meltdown

fairly suddenly. I would sleep for 20 hrs at a time, too weak to get up. Fall

asleep driving. Too weak to raise my arms to wash my hair, my throat was always

infected, my glands were swollen the first 7 yrs, the symptoms have changed over

the years, and FM was added after about 12 yrs of the other. I recovered enough

strength to try and work here and there and then have bad crashes, back then

there was no cfs to be diagnosed with, you were depressed and that was that, you

had no choice but to suck it up and cope and try and keep working, nobody

beleived you were sick in those days. There was nothing to try but

antidepressants Drs forced on you, you got no help from the medical system,

friends or family becuase if the Dr could'nt find anything wrong with you, you

weren't really sick. Not a good time to have such an illness. Over the years

I've learned what supplements and other things to take that can help me, how to

limit myself, push myself when I 'have' to, its been a real learning curve to

learn to keep going and then weed through all the info as it came along,

however, when you have that much history, you've had a lot of time to read about

every supplement and 'miracle cure' and every other theory that has hit the

streets making all kinds of promises to get your money, so its been more a

process of learning what does 'not' work more than what has.

This list is intended for patients to share personal experiences with each

other, not to give medical advice. If you are interested in any treatment

discussed here, please consult your doctor.
