Hi CS

I use Weleda toothpaste (which I know you will have in the UK).

My number one criteria, obviously, is NO fluoride!

Actually I use all Weleda stuff....shampoo etc, no nasties in any of

it.

Hi CS,

2 toothpastes which have helped with my infected teeth and bleeding gums. The

Tea-tree one helps with thrush as well.

1. Thursday Plantation tea tree toothpaste - from Nutricentre and GNC

2. Sarakan - Nutricentre and Holland & Barrett

Hope this helps.

Kindest regards,

Annette

Well, the best product I have ever used & swear by is 's Ester C

Nutrismile toothpaste. I had not seen my Dentist in 3 years & they said my

teeth

were in such good shape I did not even need a cleaning.

It has perilla seed to combat bacteria & bamboo powder & other things for

polishing & whitening naturally.

I use an electric battery operated toothbrush & this toothpaste & my teeth

stay white & very clean & the gums are in better shape than they have ever

been in my life. Sure saves me a lot of $$ & trips to the dentist.

I also chew some xylitol gum when I cannot brush right away & that is very

helpful

***Hi CS - Have you talked to your dentist about this? I don't know

that there is a toothpaste that is going to help regenerate gum

tissue. I think that is more of a surgical procedure.

Do you get regular cleanings every six months? Do you floss at least

once a day?

Co-Q-10 has been reported to help slow down and sometimes to reverse

gum disease.

Take care.

I rinse with a highly concentrated solution of Xylitol. It is VERY cheap in

bulk (NOW has it), and extremely benign. Keep your teeth immersed in it much

longer than with a standard mouthwash. I have found it quite effective. When

I notice any bleeding, I use it, and it works in 2-3 days.

Also, protects very well against cavities (at least in children, so why not

us?). I really should use it as a daily routine.

I think Tom's of Maine has a toothpaste with Xylitol in it.

Hi Dawn,

I hadnt heard of xylotil (sp?) before either, perhaps its a USA

brand, but I gather it is a kind of mouthwash or something very

similar..

There have been years and years of controversy surrounding flouride;

yet they still routinely put in all our toothpastes etc and our

government even put it in some of our water supplies over here!

I know it is supposed to toughen up the teeth a bit, but many people

are concerned that it may have toxic side-effects

- plus I think its a crime for the government to put compulsory

medication in the water supply, what about people who have multiple

chemical sensitivity? what happened to free will? where will it end?

If you havent heard about any of this before, I would suggest doing a

websearch and reading up and seeing what people say; then making up

your own mind whether you want to continue to use fluoride or not,

you can get hold of toothpastes without it if you want to.

(watch out because it is even added to some bottled waters too)

RE toothpaste and gum disease, in my experience the best thing to do

in order to keep gums healthy, is to practise effective oral hygiene;

some mouthwashes will help the gums by reducing plaque too.

basically you can use whatever you like but make sure that you are

cleaning all areas of the mouth and gums thoroughly and regularly.

Its so easy to miss little areas, especially when you are very unwell,

and the gum disease can start in very quickly;

plus many of us take medicines which cause 'dry mouth',

and people with dry mouth are more susceptible to gum disease and

have to be extra vigilant, because saliva helps to keep the mouth

clean.

I learned something about this kind of stuff because before ME/FMS I

was a qualified dental nurse,

but whatever you do, please dont take my word for anything!

-if you want to know about your teeth or your gums, you need to

consult a dentist

all the best

sweetener? Are there any potential health risks with using it? I

have avoided artificial sweeteners completely for years. I certainly

admit that I know absolutely nothing about it and I that is why I am

asking.

I like xylitol too. I chew xylitol gum etc. I have to say the best

toothpaste I've ever used, is a salt toothpaste I get at my health

food store. My teeth never feel as clean as they do with this

toothpaste.

I also use the Hydrofloss. And this is also a VERY good way to clean

teeth down below the gum line, remove placque buildup etc. You can

add various antimicrobials to the water, peroxide, silver, etc. My

favorite is a few drops of bleach, although I'm not advising it.

(You can however, purchase dental bleach, or whitening toothpaste

that has bleach in it.)

Personally I like the combo of salt and bleach dental products, and

highly recommend the Hydrofloss.
