Guest guest
Hi Bill, Which is the best way to find out if the test is offered in someones' city? Is there a website you can look it up? Thanks, Sue T winsomme <winsomme@...> wrote: i just found out that this test is offered in my city, and i asked the the nurse if they took my insurance. she said even if they didn't, the test only costs $45!!! i don't want to find out that my heart is not functioning properly, but at $45 bucks. that is some seriously worthwhile money spent. now i have to convince my DR to order it. thanks bill This list is intended for patients to share personal experiences with each other, not to give medical advice. Guest guest
Hi, Sue. I found out how to do this. CardioDynamics is the leading producer of impedance cardiography machines. Phone CardioDynamics in San Diego, CA, at 1-800-778-4825 and then punch zero. The woman who answers is very nice, and if you give her some names of cities in your area, she will tell you if they have sold an impedance cardiograph to any doctors or clinics there, and she will give you names and phone numbers. This worked well for me in helping someone in New Jersey to get this test. He got the test and the results were helpful. I don't know what it cost him. Guest guest
there was an article that suggested you call the company that makes and sells the machine. so that's what i did. first they asked what my zip code was, and they said there was nothing in my area. and i thought, " that figures " , but then i told her i lived in MA and she said there was an office in Boston and even better than that there was a small medical center in my own town that has a machine. the nurse told me that they are finding that this machine is an awesome tool for them, and they are using it more and more for monitoring cardiac patients because it is cheap and so non-invasive. anyway, here is the company's website: http://www.cdic.com/ Tel: 800-778-4825 i think i pressed option one, and just told the customer service person that i was a patient looking for somewhere that performed this test. thanks bill > i just found out that this test is offered in my city, and i asked the > the nurse if they took my insurance. > > she said even if they didn't, the test only costs $45!!! > > i don't want to find out that my heart is not functioning properly, but > at $45 bucks. that is some seriously worthwhile money spent. > > now i have to convince my DR to order it. > > thanks > bill > > > > > > This list is intended for patients to share personal experiences with each other, not to give medical advice. Guest guest
Wow Rich, thanks. I went to a cardiologist in San Diego asking for this test, and he laughed in my face. Said it was out of date and it wouldn't give him the info he really needed. He wanted me to do a stress test and then some kind of scan immediately after. I personally didn't want to risk the stress of a " stress test " so decided to wait. This is very helpful info. penny > > Hi, Sue. > > I found out how to do this. Guest guest
Penny-actually, your SD cardiologist isn't too far off base. I think what he wanted you to do is called a stress/echo, echo for echocardiagram. You would get a lot more info from it like your ejection fraction, state of your valves, etc. From what I know it would be more thorough although it would cost more. The IC doesn't give you the efection fraction, and that is one of the main things that cardiologists look at. Mike C > > Wow Rich, thanks. Guest guest
Bill or anyone-I can't remember what the treatment is if the IC comes back showing cardiac insufficiency. Are you then treated as if you have heart failure, or is it treatment for viruses that affect the heart or something else? Anyway, for $45 it would be good to know one way or the other. Guest guest
Is this the machine that Dr. Cheney refers to as the Echo 7? I called this company last year and was told someone would call me back. They never did. I also gave my information on-line to find a doctor near me. I never got a reply from this either. I'll try again tomorrow. Thanks for the information. > > i just found out that this test is offered in my city, and i > asked the > > the nurse if they took my insurance. > > > > she said even if they didn't, the test only costs $45!!! > > > > i don't want to find out that my heart is not functioning > properly, but > > at $45 bucks. that is some seriously worthwhile money spent. > > > > now i have to convince my DR to order it. > > > > thanks > > bill > > > > > > > > > > > > This list is intended for patients to share personal experiences > with each other, not to give medical advice. Guest guest
That is a bargain! Would you mind revealing the clinic or hospital? Thanks. Guest guest
Hi All, I called a couple of local doctors offices referred by the company and I was told that I must have a consult first and then an echo. If the echo indicates heart failure then the Inpendance Bio 2 machine will be used. Hmmm lots of $$. anyone know of a short cut or a good cardiologist in the San Fransico East Bay Area, Thanks, Sue T winsomme <winsomme@...> wrote: there was an article that suggested you call the company that makes and sells the machine. so that's what i did. first they asked what my zip code was, and they said there was nothing in my area. and i thought, " that figures " , but then i told her i lived in MA and she said there was an office in Boston and even better than that there was a small medical center in my own town that has a machine. the nurse told me that they are finding that this machine is an awesome tool for them, and they are using it more and more for monitoring cardiac patients because it is cheap and so non-invasive. anyway, here is the company's website: http://www.cdic.com/ Tel: 800-778-4825 i think i pressed option one, and just told the customer service person that i was a patient looking for somewhere that performed this test. thanks bill > i just found out that this test is offered in my city, and i asked the > the nurse if they took my insurance. > > she said even if they didn't, the test only costs $45!!! > > i don't want to find out that my heart is not functioning properly, but > at $45 bucks. that is some seriously worthwhile money spent. > > now i have to convince my DR to order it. > > thanks > bill > > > > > > This list is intended for patients to share personal experiences with each other, not to give medical advice. Guest guest
sue it is so frustrating when you run into roadblocks when all you wnat is a simple test. one question i would ask these cardiologists is if you have a personal DR or a CFS Doc that would order this specific test, would they be able to perform the test. the way it works at the place i called here in MA is that they use this machine in their own practice, but they also schedule it for people from other DRs. all they need to do have is my DR to call and request the test. so one opition is to call the office back and ask them if your own personal DR requests this specific test, would they be alble to perform it. another possibility is to call the company back and ask for more names of DRs or medical centers that have their machine maybe from a little further away than the one's that you ahve already called. the best bet would be to find a medical center that has one of these machines so then your DR can just right an order for the test and then you get the test done without having to see a new DR. my main question is if you have an ECHO done and it shows heart failure, why would you need the Impedance Cardiography? sounds like you were geting a little of the run-around. bill > > i just found out that this test is offered in my city, and i > asked the > > the nurse if they took my insurance. > > > > she said even if they didn't, the test only costs $45!!! > > > > i don't want to find out that my heart is not functioning properly, > but > > at $45 bucks. that is some seriously worthwhile money spent. > > > > now i have to convince my DR to order it. > > > > thanks > > bill > > > > > > > > > > > > This list is intended for patients to share personal experiences > with each other, not to give medical advice. Guest guest
Hi Bill, Thanks for your help and support on the testing. I will try and ask my doc to do that. At the same time I wonder if if would be a good idea to have a complete work up since it has been 10 years. I wish you the best of health.
