Hi,

Have been wondering for a long time about the fact that I use Oxygen at night. I

have sleep apnea and it was my idea to start the Oxygen. My problem is should I

use it so much since it is an oxidant, right??? I have non-hodgkins lymphoma and

have used Oxygen Elements Plus. I know that cancer doesn't like oxygen but is

there a difference between the two. I am concerned about this. I take

anti-oxidants.

Any comments appreciated.

Thanks,

H.

Hi, .

I'm sorry about your non-Hodgkins lymphoma.

I have sleep apnea myself, and getting more oxygen while you are

sleeping is just what you need to do for that. I use a CPAP

machine, but increasing the oxygen content of the air you breath

will accomplish the same thing.

I think you must be wondering about whether using breathing oxygen

will increase your level of reactive oxygen species, including

oxidizing free radicals. This should not be a problem unless you

use 100% oxygen, and for a long time (longer than a few hours). In

that case, there can be an increase in oxidizing free radicals in

the lungs only, and that can damage the epithelial cells in the

lungs. If the levels of antioxidants in the epithelial lining fluid

of your lungs (vitamin C or ascorbate, urate and glutathione) are

lower than normal, I think this issue would show up sooner.
