Hi . Yes, I do take melatonin. And that's the only time I can

sleep for 4-5 hours straight, then get up for an hour or two (...or

three or four sometimes), and then sleep some more.

I've never taken that much though -- 3 or 9-10 mg? I remember

reading some studies when melatonin first becamse popular and they

came to the conclusion (I thought) that amounts beyond a few hundred

micrograms were of no benefit. I used to be able to find 200

micrograms and that helped me. Lately, I've not been able to find

smaller than 300 micrograms, so that's what I've been buying. This,

plus the diphenhydramine, is what helps me sleep 4-5 hours.

I do know that the cause of some of my wakefulness is hard to pin

down. I have multiple spine/nerve problems, besides all this

musculoskeletal stuff, and sometimes it's hard to tell where the pain

is coming from.

I also know that I've had a great deal of stress for the past few

years, and that hasn't helped either. I got some good news in

December re. one point of this external stress and I had a good cry,

went to bed, and slept an unbelievable seven hours. I felt like I'd

died and gone to heaven. Other than that, I think the last time I

slept that long, in one chunk, was during the administration!

melatonin? My fibro doctor recommends 9-10 mg per night for his

patients and it really helped me. It took six months (along with my

food allergy diet and antiviral meds) to get some rest but I feel so

much better and now take only 3 mg at night (a calcium/Vit B and

melatonin mix by Natrol) and sleep all night except for 1-3 times to

pee. in La Selva Beach CA
