Guest guest
My Mothers tonsils did the same thing as she got older, she had no chronic illnesses. I've known other people who this has happened to as well who not even ill. Marcia Disappearing Tonsils I really can't find much info on it. I've googled and googled. I was thinking maybe if b-cells/tonsils are a reservoir for lyme, the body just gets rid of them, to protect itself. I really wish I knew, did they shrink over time, or did they go away suddenly, recently? This list is intended for patients to share personal experiences with each other, not to give medical advice. Guest guest
Okay, am I the only one with big, oversized tonsils? I am feeling left out here. LOL Seriously, if this is an important piece of information, where does the condition of my tonsils fit in? Any ideas? -Dawn Because e-mail on your cell phone should be easy: Try Windows Live Mail for Mobile beta http://www2.imagine-msn.com/minisites/mail/Default.aspx?locale=en-us
Guest guest
Dawn, the first year I came down with cfs my tonsils were so swollen the doc wanted to take them out. He started me on some antibiotic, I have no clue what, and they got a bit better. Then when they found I had mycoplasma I started on doxicyclne, minocycline and then Zithromax. After about 2 years some other doc was checking my throat. He says, " I see you had your tonsils removed. " I had not. Find out what you are infected with and get it treated. Good luck. a Carnes > > Okay, am I the only one with big, oversized tonsils? I am feeling left out here. Guest guest
a, Wow! That is not the answer I was expecting, but I think you may be pointing me in a direction I have failed to look. Thank you. That really makes a lot of sense. Hopefully, the testing I had done at the FFC will find out what I am infected with. They are running 44 tests. I have an apt in the beginning of April to find out the results. Would you mind sharing your symptoms that led to the mycoplasma diagnosis? Guest guest
My tonsils were also very big at the beginning of the illness. Somewhere within 15 years they got shrunken. Problem is that they never get big any more even if I get throat infection. I feel the pain, burning etc but they never get swollen as they did before my CFS life.I just recalled that they were big once around 1995-1996,so they must have got shrunken somewhere within the last 10 years. Could this be parallel to the data that adrenals also enlarge at first than they got smaller? I would think so..It is also possible that thymus and other glands also get shrunken in time.I don't know this would effect pancreas end be part of the pancreas functioning problems observed at later stages of the illness.effect best wishes. Guest guest
3 yrs into my cfs a dr took my tonsils out. they had been huge, white and bubbly with infection for 6 yrs, altho Drs didn't care or look. When they cut into them, the rotted tissue just exploded and pus went everywhere. The fools gave me no antbx, and cauterized the 'life' out of them to keep me from bleeding to death as I was puking from the anesthesia much of the night (this was around 1981 or so) Then my whole throat got so infected I could not eat and could barely swallow water until they gave me antbx shot and pills after. I did have fewer sore thoats after that, but it did not affect my cfs at all and that baffled the Dr, he thought it would cure me (this was before cfs was a known illness). I suspect had he not taken mine out then, they eventually woudl have shriveled up and disintegrated too. My mothers did when she got old and she never had any chronic infections or problems with hers. Marcia. RE: Re: Disappearing Tonsils Okay, am I the only one with big, oversized tonsils? Guest guest
Hi Marcia, I am sorry to hear that you had such a hard time with your surgery. From what I have heard, it is a much more difficult recovery when you are an adult. That is one of the main reasons I have been in no hurry to get mine out despite the fact that they are ugly (big and full of pock marks, red spots, and white dots). So, do you believe that the shrunken tonsil theory may have something to do with age? I have noticed that I seem to be one of the younger members on the board. My moms shriveled up and disappeared in her 50's maybe? I've heard of this happening to others too as they get older. Sometimes we think everything has something to do with cfs, but I'm not sure it always does, the rest of the population does have some of these things happen as they age too. so its anybody's guess. Guest guest
I just went to a new allergist the other day and he asked me the same thing, " Have you had your tonsils removed? " When I was a child they were so inflamed they wanted to take them out but I was always sick when the operation was scheduled so never had them removed. I guess that's a moot point now as they don't seem to be seen anymore. in La Selva Beach CA > After about 2 years some other doc was checking my throat.
