I've noticed lately that you are interested in dental work, and you

mentioned the IAOMT.

I had four mercury fillings replaced with composite yesterday by an

IAOMT dentist. They will have ceramic composite crowns--the brand name

is Diamond Crown, and if you're having work done it's worth a google.

He said that Diamond Crown has a little " give " to it. He first

suggested crowning the molars with gold because it's so tough, but I

told him I'd rather take a chance with the composite and he readily

agreed.

He said that he has not placed an amalgam filling for 20 years, and

that in the early days he was a rarity. One thing he learned was that

when he went to meetings with other dentists that there were three

things that he couldn't talk about: religion, politics and mercury.

Now, he said, even a lot of conservative dentists are leaning away from

amalgams. He said that the IAOMT now has 600 members.

He said that maybe one reason for the change is that dentists have high

rates of certain kinds of illnesses--he didn't say which.

In case anyone thinks that IAOMT dentists are all quacks, this guy

yesterday was highly skilled, patient and a perfectionist. He and his

assistant worked on my teeth from 8 a.m. sharp until 1 p.m., with three

five-minute breaks.
