Hi All,

I was just reading on Dr. Amy Yasko's site that Glycine stimulates

glutamate activity.

I take lots of Magnesium Glycinate and was wondering if that could be

adding problaems to my brain symptoms of headaches and eye burning

pain. I also have the light shows at night etc. I was told that the

brain symptoms could not only be caused by ammonia from dysbiosis but

also from high levels of glutamate in the brain.

Any comments .

Thanks, Sue T

Why don't you try another form of Magnesium and see if the symptoms change.

PS I am very sensitive to glutamates but I have no trouble tolerating a gram

of TMG a day. That's glycine with three methyl groups.

Thanks mjh,

I will try Mag oxide for a few days. I've got the bottle ready to go.

I was just wondering if any one else had this problem.

Only if you take Magnesium with food. Take it on an empty stomach like I

do. TO increase stomach acid enjoy some unsweetened lemon ade before eating or

take some Betaine HCl with your meals.

It is my understanding the stomach acidity has little to do with the

acid/alkaline balance in the rest of the body.

By the way, taking Calcium with meals will also lower the stomach acid. It

takes that stomach acid to help the digestive system work.

Hope this helps

I use plain old Milk of Magnesia, in small amounts several times a day, this

relief from muscle spasms and brain issues.

What you need to do is get acopy of Euell Gibbon's book, who's title evades

fermented foods featuring some foraged stuff like Jerusalem artichokes.

My family made sauerkraut by the crockfull since before they imigrated to

this country. The stuff is also high in vitamin C.

Kim chee is the Korean equivalent, using a mix of Oriental veggies,

including their kinds of cole family veggies.

Sue - Yes, I have this problem also. Anything even slightly related to glutamate

(and not necessarily glutamic acid only), triggers my brain symptoms and

increases clonus and insomnia. (and I thought glycine was supposed to be

calming?)

On a recent amino acid test, my glutamate level was very high.

I do take magnesium glycinate, because I had always heard that that form was one

of the best absorbed (and also good for the muscles ). But now I am wondering...

I would suppose that it might take awhile for the glutamate levels to decrease

(from blood and from tissues?), so that one would have to NOT take glycine

-containing supplements for quite awhile before necessarily noticing whether it

made a difference or not? Like maybe a few months?

Is anyone aware of any other connection between glycine and glutamate? Les PS:

mjh? Has anyone ever told you that you're brilliant?!

By the way, on the sauerkraut / bacteria and " naturally fermented "

topic, I heard something on a radio program, several months ago, that

was pretty interesting. It was around the time when " bird flu " was

getting more headlines, and there was a report that in SE Asia (I

don't remember which country) people were recommending that you eat

kim chee (sp?) to counteract the bird flu. Kim chee, if made

properly, is buried in the ground and allowed to ferment naturally

for several months (I forget how long!).

Amazing, with everything I'm forgetting, that I can still remember

the gist of this story!

I think all or most of the Asian countries have their own variation

on kim chee. And most of them that I've sampled are hotter than

hades, too! My family made their own sauerkraut too. Eastern

Europeans.

I'm going to keep my eye out for Gibbons' first book. I've forgotten

the title, too, mjh, but I know which one you mean.

Thanks again,

Les

MoM has been working for me since 2001 or 2002. Very easy to take and to

adjust a dose.

I do not argue with the experts and scientists, I just do/take what works

for me.

MoM helps my heart, brain/mood, muscles (fewer spasms) and etc. I can feel

the difference and now that is how I adjust my dose of Magnesium..... by what

my body is telling me.

Any form of Magnesium in sufficient enough doses..... even enough dark lefy

greens like parsley and kale will work for constipation as well as the other

issues I mentioned.

But, one must also be willing to let go........

Hi Les,

Not sure why I noticed a benefit from not taking Mag Glycinate within a few

days. Maybe because my Lyme brain etc, is so sensitive to begin with(plus

metals)

I am looking forward to feeling even better over the next month or too by not

taking it any longer. Thanks for sharing.

Please keep us posted about any progress.
