Guest guest
rich we keep finding new corners of our community that are undergoing similar lines of research for CFS and Autism. i posted yesterday about another group that discusses methylation and autism and CFS. the main elements of the group are a nasal spray form of MB12 and Valtrex. i was wondering if you had any thoughts on the idea that Valtrex may aid in correcting methylation problems and also aid in heavy metal detox. there is even the suggestion that valtrex may be necessary to help the MB12 work because it lowers levels of adenosine. the theory is that high levels of adenosine may interfere with the action of MB12. that might explain why some people do not respond to MB12 treatments. the other question i had for you is about TMG and taurine. it seems like many DAN people are saying that TMG and taurine is an alternative to MB12 and folinic acid not something to add to it. meaning you should try one or the other, not both. do you understand why that might be? here is the link to the group again. you might want to take a look at their files and database sections. mb12 valtrex/ thanks bill
Guest guest
Hi, Bill. One of the speakers at the Long Beach DAN! meeting discussed the use of Valtrex to lower adenosine and help relieve the block in the methylation cycle. I can't remember which speaker mentioned this right now, but yes, I did hear that, too. I think there are some differences in approach between different doctors in the DAN! organization. I have been presenting what Pangborn and Baker wrote in their book, but I know that some of the others do things a little differently. Pangborn recommends starting with taurine to avoid having the taurine level temporarily drop when the methylation cycle unblocks, because if the taurine gets too low, some autistic kids have seizures. Jill used TMG together with MB12 and folinic acid in her published paper in which the glutathione levels were restored in autistic kids, so I think it has a role to play in some people, at least. Until we have good gene variation testing in all the pertinent enzymes and understand what different combinations of gene variations mean, we will be stuck with a trial and error approach, I think, because what each person needs is going to depend on what set of gene variations that person has, and it won't be the same for everyone. I think this may be one of the reasons for the different subsets in CFS. Thanks for the info about the group. I don't know if I'll be able to join it, though. I have difficulty keeping up with all the groups I'm in right now. If you're in that one, how about letting us know of anything interesting that comes up over there?
