Guest guest
Could someone please send me " erikmoldwarrior " 's email address? I have just read a post about Bob with his name on it ....and am quite shocked and would like to contact Bob's daughter. Bob had been emailing me almost daily and we had planned to meet last week or so when he was coming to the DFW area to see his daughter. I live within a few miles of her home, but do not know how to contact her. Bob and I thought we had met prior at a DFW CFS support group meeting as our names were so familiar to each other. If anyone knows the circumstances of his death, please email me privately. Thanks,
Guest guest
OMG this was Bob from Texas in the moldy mobile home!!! Do you know anymore about what happened? He would always be on such shaky ground when he went back to that home but just wouldn't sell it. I can't BELIEVE we've lost another one of us!!! We hadn't heard from him in awhile and I was wondering what was going on with him. Oh dear, this is very very sad news :-( We have not yet had any questions answered about what happened to .... now Bob.... oh this is too sad :-( :-( If you find out any more please let me know what happened. Marcia Bob - Blue74730 We just heard in our mold group that a warrior has passed on. - I am Blue74730's daughter and I got your e-mail addresses from my father's e-mails. I just wanted to inform all of you that my father passed away last week. If you have any questions please feel free to e-mail me. I don't know how close any of you were to him but I wanted to let everyone know about his death and thank you for being his friend. Sincerely, Tami. Guest guest
This is too awful... and Bob were the two people I had the most contact with on this list. I agree, the home was a big problem, I think the migraines the mold gave him put him a terrible state of mind and I do fear he may have taken his own life. He suffered for such a long time, 25 years... I hope he is at peace now. > > OMG this was Bob from Texas in the moldy mobile home!!! Do you know anymore about what happened? Guest guest
, I am so sorry. One of his notes had a subject line " Why suicide so bad. " He was struggling so much with his problems .If proper could you give e-mail address of her daughter so that we can give her our condolences? Group, I really think we need a support group, too. We know each other from this list for so long. Some of us may be able to be a member of the support group, and give support to whoever needs help.I do not have the energy to moderate the group but if one of you creates a support group I will be a member. Guest guest
Group, I so much wanted to help Bob. I thought about inviting him to move into my home for a while. Now, I wish I had. I am so sorry that he suffered so much. Part of me wishes I were dead too, so that I wouldn't have to face another day of this illness. But I refuse to give up hope. I won't die without a very big fight. I think a support group is a good idea. Vickie christine wrote: > > > > Group, > > > > I really think we need a support group, too. Guest guest
I hope that this isn't taken the wrong way, but I feel that Bob has been let out of prison. Death is inevitable for us all. I know that many people aren't ready to even start thinking about that yet, but Bob was. Bob had said that he had contemplated suicide and that he prayed to God to give him a terminal illness. Bob's posts were often painful to read. So while there is sadness at his death, I also have hope that he has found the peace and freedom from pain and sickness that he wanted so badly. I have talked to a few people who had near death experiences and they were certain that that is what awaits us after death. No one can prove that it doesn't, so that's how I will think about his death. Tom

Guest guest
Hi, All. I just read the news about Bob Harrington, also. Poor guy. He suffered a lot, and for a long time. I guess he just lost hope. I wish I had done more for him. I really thought he had gotten to the root of his illness with his discovery a while back that the mold in his home was getting to him. I wish he could have visited Dr. Shoemaker. I'll miss Bob a lot, too. For years, he used to beat the daylights out of me by email, and then a few days later he just couldn't say enough nice things to me. I think he was just tormented. I can remember trying to talk him out of suicide some years ago. He said there were many times when he had sat with a loaded gun in his hand, but hadn't used it. The urgency of what we're trying to do here has just been brought home again. People, don't give up. Serena posted this on the SickBuildings list, where Bob also participated: " Carl, I had been in touch with Bob (we think) right up until the day he died. When we last spoke, he had a doctor's appointment for the next day, was planning to visit his family, and was enthusiastic about buying a new travel trailer. All things he had discussed here with us, and he was on his way to do them all. Up until then, he had been having some trouble understanding what was going on around him and was reacting very emotionally to all sorts of things. His writing had gotten a bit disjointed at times, and as it turned out later, some of what he had written was apparently not quite what he had meant to say. But we had sorted a lot of it out and he had settled down quite a lot. We even had good laugh over the whole " PhD " rant. As it turned out, he had gotten somewhat confused because we had a member and a non-member with the same name. If you don't refer to one as " Dr. " , you can't tell which is which. When we finally caught on, it was pretty funny. If I had had any idea he was not in a good place and improving, I'd have stayed up later and talked more. I know that any of us would have. I didn't hear from him again. Instead, I am told, he cancelled his plans suddenly the following day and instead took his own life. I don't think I quite have my head around this yet. That is, I know what happened to him. I know this disease kills. I know what the mental and emotional effects of it are. I know how close some of us have come, and there's no particular reason why it took him and not me or someone else. I know he was in touch with others here, and was planning to come back to the group just as he had done several times before. I just...wish he had said something that last day, is all. I have forwarded notes to Bob's family as promised, and I have asked Bob's daughter if she would like to send along a picture or memorial or something for the files section here. I have assured her that he won't be forgotten by us and that we won't stop trying to end this illness. " Rich > > Hi All, > > I can't believe it either. Guest guest
Thanks for posting that Rich. My most recent correspondance with Bob was just how Serena described it. I do think his black periods coincided with mold problems, he seemed aware of it once he came out of his dark mood. He sent me a couple of nice photos of him, including one with his kids, if you want to pass them on to Serena. > > > > Hi All, > > > > I can't believe it either. Guest guest
I really broke down sobbing over this extremely distressing news, and the loss of our very alive and present Bob (Blue). Let us not forget that hallmarks of ME/CFS are Emotional Lability and Relapse from Mental and Physical overload. For many, decision making is also tormenting, due to the damaged brain. I actually experience sharp pain IN my brain at such times. And in tests, show significant cognitive deficits in executive function. In Ramsey's definition of ME, I recall the fact that patients may be prone to, and observed in the interview, to easily " breaking down " , causing great embarassment, particullary to the normally " stoic " . These symptoms, as we know, are escalated beyond the bearable in the presence of various triggers for each of us...mold, chemicals, sensory overload, etc. I appreciated Bob's authenticity in being a MIRROR of the emotions and torment in 10s of thousands of ME/CFS patients. Especially those without caregivers, secure finances, or safe housing. I have a friend, who is among SCORES with ME/CFS/related conditions, who basically wander this country, between family homes, and other places, simply looking for safe housing. I also know that Bob was far from alone in sitting with a loaded gun in a flare-up of symptoms and overload. I really appreciated Bob for keeping alive the topic of Ciguatera epitope poisoning, whatever it's outcome may be (as one whose bloodwork shows the presence of this poison). Dr. Cheney told me that CFS persons who fare the best, are those who do not expect alot from themselves (yes, this might be called " acceptance " ), and those with caregivers. Bob expected alot from himself. His passion, and that of many others, might be misdirected or disturbing to some...but is the very thing that often keeps some of us connected, informed, and stimulated to research the next step...or assist the next patient. So, I salute you Bob Harrington (Blue)...for surviving all of your pain and labilities for decades, for your Spirit, and for your contributions to the rest of us. I only wish that you had lived to see (Psych) Professor Simon Wessley's lecture protested in London on Thursday by GWI veterans, ME/CFS patients, and others...since I recall that once you envisioned such an event! I have known Bob form the lists and I have also noticed what Rich is saying above. I had the impression that Bob had used and was using quite an amount of psychiatric drugs.Last time he hinted of taking his life I wished to mention him to get out of those drugs and contact Pfeiffer center or some place similar. Just could not do that. I was not strong enough to take the responsibility of giving him such an advise and I also was not sure if it was right time to add another difficult task on his shoulders. It was just one of those times for me that we can not evaluate things easily and get a correct decision at correct time. I wished I had done that at that time. So,the thing I want to say at this point is that please try to stay away from those poisons called psychiatric drugs. Bob had some psychological problems and I am thinking that those were not due to CFS. CFS does cause depression and anxiety but Bobs were little different than that and I really believe that he could have developed those problems due to usage of psychiatric drugs. Our brains have enough of toxic load due a to our bodies not detoxifying properly and can not handle psychiatric drugs.Remember Cheney said SSRI s fry the CFS brain if i remember correctly.. Please think twice before taking any psychiatric medication and add another toxic load on our brains. So sorry again for him. Nil
Guest guest
Nil, Tho I do agree with my own post, about serious ME/CFIDS and toxin-related lability, I also agree with your serious concern about psychiatric drugs. This issue is growing by leaps and bounds in our Society, and among those I know, with and without ME/CFS. It is staggering to know the toxicity of these drugs, the escalation of psych sx in going on AND getting off and the mass prescribing and taking of them. There is increasing evidence that bugs and toxins cause many Neuropsychiatric symptoms that are labeled " Mental Illness " today. {I have just read a study that supposedly indicated that one neurotropic treats Schizophrenia by disrupting a bacteria that causes bizzarre ( + suicidal) behavior in lab animals!?} And more coming out about the hidden effects of the drugs, known only to the Pharmaceutical companies who test them ( such as suicides IN THE TRIAL, including a hanging right in the Eli Lilly lab...possibly as a young woman went OFF of one). The above dangerous and precarious conditions make it very painful to make one's own decisions about the sx and drugs...ESPECIALLY without finances for expensive, wholistic treatments...and what to say to others in fragile places about them. IMO, This is all largely a result of perverted, corrupted, Science, under-funding and publishing on viruses and toxins, monopoly of research by Pharmaceutical Cos. and gluttonous, financial greed. Dr. Cheney does believe that psych drugs cause brain damage. He told me of a debate between opponents and proponents of them. That they BOTH agreed that brain damage occurs. The difference being, whether the trade-off off is worth it. Or that damage is already there. Or, possibly, who needs those specific neurons anyway?? He also said that after long term use, a person may have to remain on them for life. I know from reports and *much witnessing*, the dangers of coming off of them improperly. It must be exquisitely, carefully, slowly done. This is all a terrible, terrible quandry, going on everywhere. Mold illness is not obvious and apparent as people think it must surely be. If you examine the stories of mold survivors, they rarely discover it on their own - even when driven to extreme disability. When Bob found the water accumulation feeding mold under his trailer, he attempted to deal with it himself despite a strong warning that this would be disastrous, and he was forced to flee to a motel in agony. After spending 21 days in a tent and feeling the benefits of avoidance, he attempted to return to the trailer while in the phase Dr Shoemaker calls " intensification reaction " . This is a perilous time for people dealing with mold, and Bob was emotionally slammed and neurologically disabled beyond the point of being able respond to the situation appropriately and control the complex variables involved in a mold evacuation. This is difficult almost beyond imagination. Bob's messages to me indicate that he really was coming to an understanding of mycotoxins as a driving force in his symptoms, but the first impulse of most people in this stage is to rush into measures and personal involvement in remediation that have proven repeatedly to be disastrous and deadly. People who find mold must not do this. Mold illness is not obvious. What would seem to be a logical responses to finding mold are absolutely counterproductive and life destroying. The explanations are not quick and nobody is going to understand this with a short description, it has been a very long education for those of us who have been through it. -
Guest guest
, could you forward them to me too so I could see a pic of Bob? We've been interracting together on these lists so many years. He would get mad, then get over it, I too would try and help calm him down through his suicidal periods. He and I had been sick about the same length of time (him about 28 yrs, me 27) and I think he was a year or two older than me. I don't think many people realize how much harder it becomes to cope with this the longer you have it, the more life you have lost, carreer hopes completely gone, facing old age with little hope for anything but getting worse;.... etc.... I really think in Bobs case that mold in his house killed him. He had cfs before he moved into that house, but got progressively worse and each time he went back to that house his mental symptoms got closer to being totally out of control. mentioned this happens with mold situations, when you leave, then try and come back it slams you harder each time. He must have gotten too overwhelmed to fight it. Thanks to those who've shared more of the circumstances of it all, having known Bob on the lists for so many years, I really struggled with a need to know more about what happened before I can put any kind of closure on this. I pray Bob is now at peace and in no pain. Guest guest
Hi Katrina and Nil, Psychiatric drugs may have contributed to Bob's death, but I very much doubt it. I have taken anti-depressants and klonopine on and off since 1980. When I read a book in 1996 about how damaging psychiatric drugs are, I swore I would never take another psychiatric drug. But there is nothing else I have found that provides SOME relief except klonopine, antihistamines, and prednisone. I don't take prednisone because I don't want to suppress my immune system. I don't tolerate pain killers. During periods when I cannot sleep, the only thing that works is Celexa antidepressant, along with a number of other things. It has been my observation that people who are infected with B. burgdorferi and other microbes that infect the brain have a larger psychiatric component to their illness. It is common for people with Lyme disease to experience periods of irritability, depression, manic/depression or even hallucinations. During the years I took IV and oral antibiotics, I was totally free of depression. Even now, the only time I have mental symptoms is during my monthly flareup. 's description of his symptoms is very apt. (Periodically, it comes very close to killing you, but stops just short of doing so and lets you recover some before the next attack.) To me that is a good description of a chronic infection. Since I don't tolerate antibiotics any more, I am sort of stuck with the psychiatric drugs. Vickie > > Nil, > > Tho I do agree with my own post, about serious ME/CFIDS and toxin- related lability, I also agree with your serious concern about psychiatric drugs. > {I have just read a study that supposedly indicated that one neurotropic treats Schizophrenia by disrupting a bacteria that causes bizzarre ( + suicidal) behavior in lab animals!?} > > And more coming out about the hidden effects of the drugs, known only to the Pharmaceutical companies who test them ( such as suicides IN THE TRIAL, including a hanging right in the Eli Lilly lab...possibly as a young woman went OFF of one).
