Hi Bob,

If I stop more than one supplement at once,my body can not handle this. My

body is not so adaptive to changes, That might be the case for you, too. So,it

is better to stop one at a time.

I am thinking that If you were intolerant of mag stearate you most probably

would have noticed this by now. Any supplement that contains mag stearate

gives me terrible brain fog. Just can not take it.

So,you might not be in need of hurry.

best wishes

p.s. planning to write you more later on mcs. At this point I am unable to

write more.

Bob,

I thought it was increasing my MCS because I was more and more not being

able to tolerate supplements and other medication.I am not now sure if this

means my MCS was increasing. After reading your question I tried to make some

search at web on how mag stearate was produced but could not deduct any

results due to my low brain power. is it synthetic? is it only from animal

source? Is it hydrogenated? At this point I am not sure what the real

problem is.

Hi Nil,

Kirkman labs at www.kirkmanlabs.com uses a magnesuim stearate derived from

the palm plant which should be OK. I am purchasing most of my supplements from

them now since there products seem the purest to me and their focus is

Autism/CFS.

Best wishes, Sue

I happen to ask my chiropractor about magnesium stearate and he said it

is toxic. He said it is beef fat and the processed used makes it toxic.

He knows a lot about vitamins. I quit taking supplements for awhile to

see how I felt. I recently started back and have not felt as good. My

vitamin C has it and I have been taking 8,000mg a day. Even my

digestive enzymns has it. I am glad you brought this up. My MCS seemed

to get worse earlier this year and I was taking a lot of supplements

and most have the MS.

Hi If you are at all sensitive or have MCS or are low in essential fatty acids

magnesium stearate is really bad for you. I cannot use any supplements with

magnesium stearate in it at all. Luckily there are companies that do not use

magnesium stearate at all:

Thorne Research

Premier Research in Texas

Klaire/Vital Life

Pure Encapsulations

Metabolic Maintenance

I think there are two studies showing that magnesium stearate can negatively

affect the immune system. So I just buy my supplements from these 5

companies.

This has been a great thread for me. Thanks Nil (It was you?). I have

sensitivities, MCS and low on EFA's. I have heard people say before

that they got off all of their supplements and actually felt better.

Maybe this is why.

I just emailed NEEDS, as I buy from them, and told them about the MS

and do they stock a brand which does not use this filler. That is

easier than checking each brand on their web site. The

vir/supplements you mentioned, is that also a web site? I forgot and

I cannot see it. Someone listed Solaray has not having MS. Maybe some

but I have some Solaray Kudzu and it has MS.

If I understand the situation with mag. Stearate it not only is toxic

but it is hard to digest and cuts way down on what we can absorb of

the supplement so it hurts us in many ways. I can see why tablets use

it but I have a couple of capsules which use it for filler?

Magnesium Stearate is poorly ionized and has absorption amongst other

problems. We prefer preservative free Magnesium sulphate. We are exploring mag

nesium taurate in the complex Hepapressin injection.

Bob,

I am using Calcium ascorbate crystals in powder form as vit C source. this

solved my vit c problem at this point.Cost is also a lot lower.I also do

better on ascorbate form than ascorbic acid.(that may be individual, needs to

be checked)

Trying to replace my magnesium,too.. Probably by magnesium chloride

solution. nil

Hi

Low in essential fatty acids? Could you please explain more?

Hi Bob,

It was not Solaray but Solgar.Solgar is using vegetable source Ms.

Thanks

p.s. my answers may be late.

In addition to other possible negatives, I wonder if mag stearate in such

low doses but over a long period could have any effect on weight gain and/or

bloating. For those of us taking multitudes of supplements that contain it,

could we add this to its growing list of negatives on mag stearate?

The Thorne " Quality Control " article previously posted seems to hone in on

this issue the best, but, one must realize that this has been Thorne's

marketing angle since they started in 1984. Better to find the actual unbiased

studies done independent of any manufacturer.

Here are some additional links with regard to mag stearate. Of particular

interest is the first link in which I've excerpted the following:

Conclusion

The concentration of magnesium stearate and time of lubrication of mixtures

with magnesium stearate can affect the content uniformity of active

ingredient in mixtures that are based on particle interactions, as determined in

model

mixtures of lactose and micronized aspirin in this study. By comparison,

this effect was significantly smaller in mixtures of noninteracting components.

Translated into practical terms, the effect of magnesium stearate on the

content uniformity of active ingredient in coarse powder mixtures such as

granules for encapsulation or compaction into tablets, is not likely to be as

significant as that in ordered mixtures containing low-dose active ingredient

and

diluent. In the latter, lubrication time can have a significant effect on the

content uniformity of active ingredient. The extent of the impact of

lubrication time depends on the composition of the mixture and on the

concentration

of magnesium stearate in the mixture.

These studies seem to suggest that its effect of binding or slowing the

efficacy of the active ingredients depend on how much is added to the

supplement

in the first place. Further studies need to verify this.

Something confusing that I haven't been able to resolve is whether its

source is vegetable or animal derived? I've seen definitions showing both which

doesn't make sense.

I am going to make inquiries to all the supplement mfg's that I buy from who

use it in their products and see what they have to say. I will let all know

when and if I get a response.

Hi Bob

I will answer you in a day or two. I gave the research I had regarding the

adverse effects of magnesium stearate to Dr. Cheney and he read it and so that I

get the information correct I will listen to the tape of our conversation

again and then write you and tell you what he said

Chris.
