Guest guest
I began my online Social Security application yesterday. I only got as far as listing most of my doctors and I got tired and had to stop. This morning at 7:30(!)the local SS office called and spoke to my husband (I was sleeping) and set up an appointment for us to come in tomorrow and complete the application there! I never expected such helpfulness, and so fast! Any pointers for the appointment? I will be carrying copies of a LOT of my medical records. Guest guest
Hi Jennie: My advice is to think before you speak, emphasize your problems with ADLs (activities of daily living), as well as your cognitive problems- especially in regard to filling out the forms. It wouldn't hurt to make them go slow! Also, know you're in my prayers! Good Luck. Guest guest
Follow what mjh suggested earlier re. tape recording the session. Is it possible that your lawyer could go with you to the appointment? If you have retained a lawyer (I can't remember), I would think that he/she should be there whenever you discuss anything or fill out any forms. Also, if possible, have your husband with you. That way you could be " very dependent " on him for information. I'm not suggesting you be sneaky about this, but it also seems to me that because the SS Admin operates the way that it does, you want to convey the VISUAL image that you need outside help. Also, I really would suggest that you look, visually, as " unkempt " and screwed-up as possible. Don't wash your hair, don't wear makeup...that kind of thing. Remember that you need to absolutely convey the image of DYSFUNCTIONALITY. It will do you no good to spend time trying to look tidy and neat, because they figure if you can manage that, you can manage life, period. It does not matter to them if it takes you six hours to be able to dress and plaster your face on -- if you can do it at all, that's " a good sign " to them, period. If it were me, doing this again, I would lay off any pain medications, too, so that I could actually BE in pain and have difficulty doing anything at all. But I'm not in a position to advise anyone else about taking or not taking their meds. Good luck! Champaign IL > > I began my online Social Security application yesterday.
