Guest guest
The DAN! recommended treatment for both high homocysteine and low homocysteine is the same: on the one hand, methylB12, possibly DMG and folinic acid all help catalyze the conversion of homocysteine to methionine, and on the other hand vitamin B6/P5P catalyzes the conversion of homocysteine to cystathionine. I and somebody else on the list wondered why these same treatments are recommended for both low and high homocysteine. The answer, from " Autism: Effective Biomedical Treatments " , actually makes a lot of sense: If you have high homocysteine, you want to get rid of it, so you help catalyze its conversion to cysteine and methionine. But the reaction that converts SAH (homocysteine's predecessor in the methionine cycle) to homocysteine is reversible whereas the conversion of homocysteine to methionine or cysteine is not.. So, if you have low homocysteine, you might have a buildup at SAH, which in turn blocks the whole cycle. By helping remove homocysteine from the cycle, you set the conditions for converting more SAH to homocysteine, thus lowering SAH and getting your whole cycle moving again. Or at least, so goes the theory.
Guest guest
Hi, cb122. The simplified treatment approach for lifting the partial methylation cycle block was developed to lower the cost and complexity of the full Yasko treatment program. It works for most PWCs/PWMEs, but not for all. I recommend trying it for 3 months, and if benefits are not experienced by then, it is time to consider a change in protocol or more testing to see what is going on. MethylMate A is a combined supplement. The most important parts are included in the simplified treatment. Some people do not do well on combined supplements because they have a sensitivity to one constituent or another, so I have favored using single supplements where possible, though I have still included the multi developed by Yasko to cover deficiencies in vitamins and minerals, as well as to provide certain other nutrients that are helpful for the methylation cycle and related pathways. Some people are sensitive to one or more of the ingredients, and have had to try other multis, such as the Thorne Basic. Best regards, Rich > > > > > > Hi I didn't do very well on Questran (cholestyramine) I tried one sachet a day for a month and it just seemed to clog up my system (not bowel wise as I took plenty of vit C) but I just felt very toxic and nauseas. Iv been off it for 2weeks and trying to build up my stamina levels again. I will try very low doses of the methylation protocol i.e. ActiFolate and Intrinsic B12/Folate which appear to be the key supplements then add the rest as I go along given that I don't suffer too much from the first two supplements. > > > > > > Regards > > > Gordon > > > U.K. > > > > > > (a bit wind blown today from hurricane Collete you sent over from the states) > > > methylation treatment > > > > > > > > > > > > Hi Gordon, > > > > > > How did your trial of cholestyramine go? > > > > > > I have a friend in California who is on the RVK methylation protocol.
