Guest guest
Hello Angie, Have you tried Dr. Lapp in Charlotte, NC? He has helped a lot of people from our support group in Winston Salem. He writes a wonderful report that keeps the insurance companies off my back. The Sasser law Firm, Max Sasser Attorney at Law in Charlotte, NC is excellent. Wishing you the best, Best doctor for LTD? and/or legal? I'm having problems with my LTD company - and maybe my cardiologist. The LTD company has just closed my case and I now have to hire an attorney to fight them. I know what nightmares they can be but I can't help but wonder if my cardiologist had been more supportive in his last return phone call to them, if it might have been harder for them to come back with a denial. Instead, according to the letter, he called them on the very last day and basically agreed with them! Ok, I know I need to talk to him and find out what really went down and I have an apt set up to see him today for just that reason. However, I'm more than a bit concerned I may need to find a doctor better versed in issues surrounding problems with ongoing fatigue. I'm in NC and willing to travel - and frankly, at this point, I think I would really prefer to go out of state if I can find someone who may be supportive in a malpractice case as well. I REALLY want to go after the first group of doctors I saw when I became ill, the ones who left me with " just meningitis " with no medication because I only needed " a week off from work to rest. " Now, they did give me a week of Doxy in the beginning, when they misdiagnosed me with Rocky Mt Spotted Fever but they refused to give me anymore antibiotics after that. I had Lyme Disease and I developed encephalitis - hence my many travels onto message boards looking for answers. Anyway, who is on top of the game at fighting insurance companies and supporting ongoing disabilities? Who is the best in supporting malpractice cases as an expert witness for the injured? It would be wonderful if they were one and the same but, not required. Number 1 priority is finding the doctor for my LTD case right now. Thanks! Guest guest
Hi , I'm considering him and have his phone number handy. I have to admit, I was kinda hoping to find someone similar but out of state. The reason is that if I try to go after the original doctors who left me untreated while so desparately ill, it's hard to do using North Carolina doctors. The NC Medical Board goes after doctors in NC who testify against other doctors in NC. I find it incredible that they can weild that much power over these doctors to inhibit them from assisting those who have been so wronged physically and financially. I guess, in the end, it benefits the members they have practicing on the board as well as their MD buddies. They can make more errors with less worry of penalty. Total conflict of interest, in my opinion. However, I will keep that name in mind if I can't find anyone good out of state. Anyone else have suggestions for a doc as quailified as Dr. Lapp - or is he it??? Thanks, Angie > Hello Angie, > Have you tried Dr. Lapp in Charlotte, NC? Guest guest
Another option is to contact the NCF, National CFIDS Foundation. I believe the husband of one of the principals/founders is a disability attorney who specializes in CFS/FMS. I thought Jill on this list might know a lot more than I do re the NCF. Guest guest
Mike, I think I'm good for the disability attorney. I meant to add in my last email that Sasser's firm had handled my SS and I was happy with them. They have an LTD area with Sasser and I'm supposed to try to set up an apt with him next week. Now, if I attempt to go forward with a malpractice...that's a different type of attorney. I still have to find one. I had one that seemed to have an excellent reputation but he didn't disclose a few things to me - which negatively affected his ability to practice law - and we parted ways. So, I need a new malpractice attorney that has a bit of integrity... Wait, can I say " attorney " and " integrity " in the same sentence?!!! Guest guest
It sounds to me like you need an Erisa attorney. The disninissues newsgroup is a good place to start for disability questions. Some people have spoken highly of Dr. Goldberg in MA., who may help you with a supporting letter. But, my understanding is that only an attorney can help beyond just supporting that you are disabled. I believe it would be hard to find a doctor who would testify against another doctor! good luck best, lea
Guest guest
-----Hello Angie, I would want Dr. Lapp on my team when walking into a NC court room. Sorry, you were untreated for so long. But, we have over 400 people on our support group list and not a doctor in the medical rich area of Winston Salem understand CFS or Lyme disease. They we give you a diagnosis of fibromyalgia. I could write a book from all the war stories. Are there any suggestions from this group on how we can stop the ignorance? Thanks, Hi , I'm considering him and have his phone number handy. Guest guest
I have found 2 doctors willing to write scrips for b12 shots. Both of them worked in clinics for very poor people. There are some " real " docs in those places- not after money, ya know. Very bright- and maybe eccentric. And then too, I am very " real " with them; very aggresively articulate. Sometimes I talk real fast. And when I tell them I have " chronic fatigue syndrome, " they never have bothered to try to find out which doc initially made the diagnosis, lol. Of course they are not used to having such a medically knowledgeable pt, and they take notice. My current doc allows me to inform him. He referred another pt to me to learn abt b12. It is possible to educate some docs. But you have to be able to give them references-other docs. I think they'ld rather talk than read. Guest guest
Hello Adrienne, I have found in the Winston Salem, NC area that people going to the free clinic are getting an excellent level of care in compared to the big hospitals. Most of the doctors at the free clinic are surgeons that are finding themselves in a primary care position and b/c of limited funding are listening to the patients. Does you local library have a copy of Dr. Jay Goldstein's book Tuning the Brain , I loan it to doctors and if they tell me they understood and enjoyed the book, I get my running shoes on. Dr. Goldstein has a lot of documentation on what drugs will work for us and how. We had a lady in our group going to a doctor that announced he was testing drugs along with another doctor friend to see what would work on CFS/FM! She explained that all he had to do was read! The research has been done. But, for some reason they all want to reinvent the wheel. Anyway, thanks for helping educate. I have found 2 doctors willing to write scrips for b12 shots. Guest guest
Theresa, Thanks. My naturopath has just started talking to me about my brain chemicals. I think he has an amino acids test in mind. Is that in the ballpark of what you are referring to? I am not real big anymore on taking pharmaceuticals. At least I have never been trashed bigtime by a supplement. I can have the library get it for me on interlibrary loan, id need be. I found a used copy for 28. but don't care to buy it sight unseen, I guess. Your remarks about the clinic are interesting. YA' never can tell. Adrienne Best doctor for LTD? and/or legal? > > > I'm having problems with my LTD company - and maybe my > cardiologist.
