Guest guest
I have been allergic to cats for most of my life, but I developed extreme allergies to every other animal with CFIDS (except probably reptiles and fish, which I haven't tested). However, despite my allergy to all other dogs, I found I actually was able to tolerate a breed of dog considered hypoallergenic -- bouvier des flandres. I wouldn't necessarily recommend this to everyone, but there are a few breeds of pets considered hypoallergenic, though it's a largely disputed issue. For me, the difference between my bouvier and another dog was very dramatic. I really wasn't allergic to him, but was highly allergic to other dogs. I also have found both Allerpet-C (for cats -- you rub it on them to de-allergenate them) and Allerpet-D (for dogs) to be helpful products. I have MCS and they are odor-free (although the animal might smell more when dampened with them). I have a friend with CFIDS whose severe migraines diminished substantially when her cat died. It seems the cat really was contributing to, or actually causing, her highly debilitating and very frequent migraines. My dog died a year and a half ago, though, and I didn't notice any discernible improvement after his death. Peggy
