Hi Natasha,

Personally, I've found that changing my diet always helps. If I eat

too much " junk " , or even a " healthy " sweet or higher carb food, like

pumpkin pie (which is pretty low in sugar) I pay for it the next day,

feeling like I have a hangover.

But if I eat more potatoes, or green beans, and lately zucchini, even

with rice pasta or rice, and especially if I add green onions,

regular onions, or garlic -- the pain almost completely goes away.

I'd HIGHLY recommend looking into Chinese Medicine -- not really for

the herbal formulations, but for food recommendations. There's a

great book called " Chinese System of Food Cures " -- it's about 10

years old, but a lot of surprising info in there.

ONIONS, well-cooked, will take away a headache (at least for me)

every time. Maybe it's because they're high in quercetin recommended

by the Marshall folks???

severe pain. I don't have it all the time but when I do I really do.

I've gotten to the point where the advils, tylenols, naprosyns, etc

just don't really work and besides that my stomach really can't take

much more of that.

ditto on clearing up diet. i am in the process of going back to what

i did when i first got ill in 1990. macrobiotic or close to it.

i was quite ill when i first got sick and got better. now, could

have been coincidence. but i'm sure when we eat processed foods,

etc. -- our bodies spend more energy trying to get nutrients out of

what we eat.

OF COURSE, when we're really ill -- it becomes a catch-22. i'm

lucky if i can get anything to eat as who wants to cook.

but if you can, clean up your diet. i recall reading a lot about it

also helping joint/muscle pain. not so many toxins in body.

hi natasha --

it's " tuna " (my dog's name, or one of them) aka laurel.

YES i know that feeling of just getting to the microwave.

part of the " problem " besides being ill might be the PWCs are very

prone to " allergies and sensitivities to noise/sound, odors,

chemicals and medications " (source: http://www.cfids.org/about-

cfids/symptoms.asp).

sorry about the emergency room visit. have you been diagnosed with

low blood pressure or othostatic intolerance --

http://www.cfids.org/about-cfids/orthostatic-intolerance.asp

i've come to realize for myself drinking water (although it's SO

boring) is important.

i don't have the extreme extreme pain i used to or very rarely,

thankfully. but i mostly treat to put me to sleep -- benadryl by

prescription (insurance pays for it that way), valerian root, kava

kava.

i do know that i sure don't feel like i have the energy much lately

but i am going to get myself back to doing yoga 6 days a week. i

have a tape that takes only 20 minutes. and it REALLY helped with

pain.

it all sucks, in many ways, as it's a catch-22. limited exercise

helps but who has the energy to change the dynamic?

i do own a LOT of heat/cold pads from target (9.99 with blue

cover). and use some for hot, some for cold. and that also does

help.

you know -- i realized i said i don't have the same extreme pain.

but for months in 2004 i had EXTREME off-the-scale pain in my hips.

hot baths helped a lot. and then ice packs. it wasn't day after day

so i got some respite but some days it was pretty almost

intolerable.

i would imagine heavy-duty pain medications work on single use, like

codeine does but i don't have any direct experience.

keep us posted please,

laurel

maintain that. When I first got sick in the early 80's NOTHING

worked and I would be in the hospital quite a few times. I've never

gotten rid of the pain but now with this mega relapse I'm lucky if I

get to the microwave and just zap something and besides that, things

are so expensive. I still will try, when able to get healthy food

and the good vitamins, etc.

needed. The State that I've now moved to (been here almost 3 years)

just doesn't get it. As I said, where I lived before the Drs were

very aware of my intolerance of taking the heavy duty stuff for any

length of time and I would even bring in the bottle of pills after 6-

8 months of filling it to show them just how much I'd taken.
