I have one and I do not use it anymore. I noticed when I first bought

it a fresh type odor but yet my lungs would burn a little. I called

the company and the sharperimage puts out small amount of ozone,

which they say is safe. I figured if it was burning my lungs, it

wasn't safe. I will sell you mine for $100 and it has only been used

about 2-3 days.

I tried the positive ion one and stuff seem to stick to my nose.

The negative one is better but I can't run it unless there is plenty of

fresh air.

If lots of things get you funny, including plastic stuff I would recommend

the small inexpensive bathroom one just to see if its going to work for you.

I'm trying just a UV light, that I'm planning on placing inside the large

intake vent.

I found a cheap one on e-bay. It should be here in a day or two.

The IVIG is working.

If 10 is dead and 0 is back to work full time I went form a 9 to an 8.

And every day I seem to fell 2-3% better.

And I still can't run the gas heater but I can close my door and vent, and

warm up the house, wait a few minutes and open my door to warm up that way.

And with an electric heater in my room, and since I am counting on

continuing to improve it seems its going to be a real life saver.

Hi, all.

My wife's parents got an Oreck air purifier, and they say it really

helps them. My wife's mother suffers from pulmonary fibrosis or

hypersensitivity pneumonitis, the doctor wasn't sure. In any case,

her lungs are damaged, and she uses oxygen when she sleeps.

The Oreck machine has a prefilter, an electrostatic precipitator,

and a charcoal filter. You have to wash it out periodically, but no

expensive HEPA filters are involved. The charcoal filter should be

replaced periodically if you are trying to trap volatile organics,

but otherwise, there are no filter replacements needed. I wash it

out for them about once a month, and it's obvious that it does

collect particulates from the air.

I don't see the Oreck machine on the Consumer Reports list, .

I don't know what to make of that. It does seem like a pretty good

machine, and they haven't complained of any ozone-type symptoms.

I use Austin aire too I think it is much better than the ones that have been

mentioned so far

hi i have an austin air filter , much larger than the shaper image one and

it has a hepa filter as well as improvments in it for some chemicals etc

when i changed it about two years ago..it only needs changing once every

five years and you have to occasionally vacum the outside of them ..they

are on wheels and come in about two or three colors..i have mine about 8

years and very happy with it..it comes junior size and regular depending on

the square footage... n.e.e.d.s. has the cheapest price about two years

ago , based in syracuse , new york tealk

I called Dr. Shoemaker's office today and they said they used to recommend

HEPA filters but over time found they didn't work as good as they hoped, so

have no recommendation for me. I asked about Sharperimage system and their

opinion agreed with what that Consumer Reports rating was: dead last and said it

hardly works like they claim it does.
