Hello to all. After reading the below pasted study/research by

Dr. Brewer, one thing stuck out very dramatically to me. It was

the part of the research where Dr. Brewer indicated that many if

not all of the population have *latent* HHV6 infection, but it takes

a triggering event to make it 'come to the surface' or become a

bothersome/debilitating illness. Further, he stated that he felt

that the use of steroids could be the cause. They suppress the

immune system and allow the HHV6 to become a problem. Well, how

many of us since childhood were give steroids for poison ivy,

shoulder or joint inflamation or a myriad of other conditions that

steroids were used for back in the 1960s-70 before the dangers were

known. I probably had steroids (orally or injectd) 6-7 times before

I became ill at the age of 35.

Anyway, I am sure that steoid administration is not the cause of

HHV6 becoming active from a latent stage for all of us, but it

certainly caught my attention when reading the research.

Hmm. All kinds of viruses are latent. Viruses such as CMV and EBV and

Shingles/Chicken Pox (most of the herpes family) lie dormant in most people. I

believe that any compromise in the immune system allows them to grow. Steroids

are only one thing that can weaken the immune system.

Yes Annette, as Doris just posted, steroids are only one

thing that could weaken the immune system enough to allow

latent virii to become active/chronic. I was simply

pointing out what *may* have happened in my case, and

maybe there are 10-20 other things that would weaken the

immune system enough for HHV6, CMV or any other virus

or even bacteria to become chronic and lead one to get

a diagnosis of 'CFS' (although it really may be chronic

HHV6, CMV, etc.). This 'theory' could also explaing why

different 'CFS' patients have different symptoms, and some

treatment work for some and not for others. That's is

all I was trying to get across (Poorly, obviously).
