Help Needed - Interpreting High Serum Ferritin

Hello All,

Well things continue to go very well on the Benicar and low

dose minocycline. I saw my Doctor yesterday, who is very impressed,

interested and excited to see the changes in me, and is going to try

to get Benicar into Australia for local distribution (even if it is

only for the Marshall Protocol) and start more of his patients on it.

We went over my blood test results yesterday (no D tests

unfortunately) and my CBC results are all good, my liver function all

good, etc. My ESR has actually come up from a low of 1-2 on all

previous tests to a 7 since starting the Benicar! Which is great, when

considering the work of Dave Berg indicated that very low sed rates

were indicative of hypercoagulation.

What concerns both me and my doctor, however, is that my serrum

Ferritin is quite high. Its 517 ng/ml. ThHe top of the reference range

is 300. I have not been taking any supplements that contain Iron, and

apart from eating a decent amount of red meat dont understand what

this means. My Doctor said it can be elevated due to inflammation and

infection, as well as a range of other medical conditions, and that we

will do another blood test in a few weeks to see if it goes down by

itself. I was wondering if anyone knew the significance of this

result?

One thing that should be checked is the potential for hereditary

hemochromatosis. This is an iron storage disorder that is commonly

missed in diagnosis, and can lead to many of the symptoms of CFS, as

well as liver cancer, diabetes, heart disease, and many other issues.

The good thing about it, is it is very easy to treat if found before

organ damage occurs. All you need is regular blood draws to deplete

the stored iron.

My son has both hemochromatosis and Lyme disease, and believe me, we

would much rather have the iron prblems than the Lyme.

Hi,

If I remember correctly high ferritin could be sign of b12 deficiency.You might

wish to check that.

Thanks for this. Im not sure that it is Hemochromatosis yet, (we need

to do more blood tests), but I will keep people posted on what ends up

happening.
